How can i run commands from folders with an address bar without it opening my browser? every time i re-install windows i forget, so figured i'd have it recorded in a thread for next time...
example: "notepad" will run C:\WINDOWS\notepad.exe
right now i have to type in the full path
what option is it to have it search locally first? 1/9/2007 5:13:08 PM |

extension doesn't matter.
still won't work.
it's like it will only go to the internet to search and won't check paths first 1/9/2007 6:43:40 PM |

Would something like this work? - Create a directory called "Bats" or something similar. - Create a bat file for each program you want to run - Set your Path in Windows to the "Bats" directory 1/9/2007 8:09:50 PM |

nah, this is not something that has to be rigged.
there is 1 setting in windows somewhere that will fix this and i can't find it.
works on my laptop, not on my desktop.

not exactly what you were asking for but it should work and you can make the commands even shorter
http://pcworld.about.com/magazine/2111p184id112475.htm
bottom of the article tells you how to set registry values so that you can type just the shorthand version and not the entire path.
I'd just make a key, save it somewhere, then merge if you ever need it again instead of setting it up manually.
