yeah i did get it from packpride, but we should be above Michigan and Syracuse. Michigan State and Connecticut though should be up there, possibly above us. 1/10/2007 10:49:42 AM |

When you consider our history involving the Southern Conference and Everett Case, we definitely should be higher than Michigan and Syracuse. Our recent history (last 20 yrs) has really taken a toll on other's perception of us as one of the greatest programs ever. 1/10/2007 11:52:50 AM |

Looking over that list, it basically comes down to final four appearances which I guess is fair. 1/10/2007 12:10:07 PM |

Well it depends on how you define it.
If it's based on history or more specifically contributions, both regionally and nationally, to the game of college basketball you can easily argue we are a Top 3-5 program. No program had as big an influence on college basketball in the South than NC State. We built the "MSG of the South" and were, for all intents and purposes, the flagship program of the ACC.
If it's based on consistency through different era's we'd likely be in the Top 10. UCLA, UNC, Louisville, Kentucky, and a few others I'm likely overlooking would rank higher.
If it's based on tangible results that are cumulative throughout history, regardless of longterm consistency I wouldn't rank us in the Top 10. In no particular order I'll list some programs that seem to be more accomplished to me.
NC State: 2 National Championships, 3 Final Fours, 22 NCAA Appearances
UNC: 4 NCs, 16 FFs, 38 NCAA App. Duke: 3 NCs, 14 FFs, 30 NCAA App. Louisville: 2 NCs, 8 FFs, 32 NCAA App. UConn: 2 NCs, 2 FFs, 27 NCAA App. Syracuse: 1 NC, 4 FFs, 31 NCAA App. Michigan State: 2 NC, 6 FFs, 20 NCAA App. Indiana: 5 NC, 8 FFs, 33 NCAA App. Kentucky: 7 NCs, 13 FFs, 48 NCAA App. UCLA: 11 NCs, 15 FFs, 40 NCAA App. Kansas: 1 NC, 12 FFs, 35 NCAA App. Cincinnatti: 2 NC, 6 FFs, 24 NCAA App. 1/10/2007 12:40:46 PM |

What I don't get is the UTEP aka Texas Western being on there. Yeah their title was historic, but the subject is hoop dynasties, not the social relevance of one win. 1/12/2007 8:10:49 PM |

10 ACC Championships is nothing to scoff at either, considering it's historically the best conference in the nation.
If you look at Final Fours, Championships, and NCAA Appearances, you would think that a team like Maryland could arguably be up there with NC State (And I don't know Maryland's NCAA appearances off the top of my head)
I do know that they only have 2-3 ACC championships to our 10.1/12/2007 11:50:33 PM |
