I'm currently listening to Fox News Radio on 101.1 FM. It's entertaining I'll grant you, if you enjoy listening to belligerent conservative... no, extremist opinions on US politics. I was just curious if, other than NPR, anyone can reccommend a more moderate or liberal news/talk station on local radio that isn't dull as crap.

You should check out the allen handelman show. Its on the same radio station you listen to from 4-7pm. His radio talk show is always fresh because he talks about different topics instead of politics all the time. He very respectful of your comments and doesn't get irate if you disagree wit h him about something.

101.1, 91.5, and WCHL-AM — 1360 are all presets for talk I have currently set in my car.

Hearing fox news on one end and air america on the other kinda puts npr as the moderates for the talk stations I can pick up.

npr and air america are only different in that the US government charges you for the liberalism spouted off on that sorry excuse for a radio station.

^ No one will deny NPR has a slight liberal bias, but there's a world of difference between NPR's bias and the blatant right-wing propaganda spewed on Fox News and its affliates. NPR has a moderate tone, and if you disagree then try LISTENING to it and judge for yourself. I bet most of the people bashing it for being liberal haven't ever tuned in to it in their lives...

That isn't news...that is talk radio.

There is a difference.

they (npr) don't get much money at all from the gov't.

^(and npr has plenty of legitimate news too)

They don't deserve ANY money if there is well documented bias (which there is).

No one should be forced to pay for a biased "news" source. Fox News, however biased it may be, is private enterprise.

Do you listen to NPR? Lets start with the flagrant pro-Palestinian bias and anti-Israel bias.

presuming that anything anyone says isn't biased is naive.

maybe you just have a pro-Israeli bias and you cannot let your ideology on this issue be affected by facts.

But as it stands, NPR is not talk radio.

I listen to NPR every day and I find their news to be conservative.

some of npr is most definitely talk radio.

for instance: talk of america and the diane rehm (sp?) show

But it isn't talk radio in the sense of Rush, or Hannity, or Bill O'Reily

The only real Fox part of 101.1 is the Fox News news breaks every 30 mins or so, all of the programming other than that is simply talk radio. I think Neal Boortz is hilarious to listen to at least, and Clark Howard on that station is good money sense. There's always 680 AM but thats pretty much only conservative talk radio.

^^^Talk radio is defined as shows such as Air America, Rush, and Hannity.

NPR falls into the news/entertainment sector

so other shows aren't talk radio because they aren't those shows?

that's a really ridiculous "definition"

^ Since you brought up the semantics, allow me to weigh in.

NPR is a radio station that hosts some talk radio shows.

Air America is, too.

Your other examples are specific talk radio programs that are broadcast on other stations.

i agree that nutsmackr gave a retarded definition

i personally think any radio station that has, i dunno, talking all day instead of music is talk radio?

although i guess npr does play some little classical music blurbs here and there so they're not 100% talk radio

not technically. WUNC is a radio station.

but beyond all of this semantics, listing examples of talk radio, is not a definition of talk radio.

for once, i agree with treetwista.

you sure do like throwing around the term strawman when you are backed into a corner dont you?

you're probably the only person on TWW who doesnt think NPR is, for the most part, talk radio

the merriam webster defition:

Quote :
" talk radio
Function: noun
: radio programming consisting of call-in shows"

american heritage dictionary:

Quote :
"talk radio
n. Broadcast radio programming consisting of talk shows, often including telephone conversations with members of the audience. "

dictionary.com:

Quote :
"talk radio
–noun
a radio format featuring talk shows and listener call-ins."

so to summarize, talk radio usually has:

- conversations between host(s) and listener(s)
- talking

no mention at all in the definition (obviously) of terms such as:

- sports
- politcal

NPR depends on what part of the country you live in. In many places, the NPR stations are almost strictly music.

no. npr is programming that stations subscribe to.

for help, from npr's website:

Quote :
"What is NPR?
NPR (National Public Radio) is an internationally acclaimed producer and distributor of noncommercial news, talk, and entertainment programming. A privately supported, not-for-profit membership organization, NPR serves a growing audience of 26 million Americans each week in partnership with more than 800 independently operated, noncommercial public radio stations. Each NPR Member Station serves local listeners with a distinctive combination of national and local programming. With original online content and audio streaming, npr.org offers hourly newscasts, special features and ten years of archived audio and information. "

^the one out of wfu does a lot of classical music.

oh ok...i figured when i would have it on one of their stations and it was classical music that they were getting a feed from a different provider...like how some sports radio stations have local shows then also broadcast national shows...oh well

If you want people who just make some damn sense then listen to Brad & Britt in the morning. It is funny though how now they have wingnuts calling in and e-mailing screaming they won't ever listen again because they claim Brad & Britt have some kind of liberal bias now.

I have also slightly warmed up to Neal Boortz even though I disagree on his with his environmental position I think that he has some solid ideas.
