....hypocrite.

http://washingtontimes.com/national/20070112-120720-2734r.htm

Both Star Kist and Del Monte are headquartered in San Francisco and both have an exemption in the new mimimum wage hike the Dems are trying to pass. Why would Pelosi and her party want to keep anyone from making "a living wage"?

Can you say kickback.

"Some Republicans who voted in favor of the minimum-wage bill were particularly irritated to learn yesterday -- after their vote -- that the legislation did not include American Samoa.
"I was troubled to learn of this exemption," said Rep. Mark Steven Kirk, Illinois Republican. "My intention was to raise the minimum wage for everyone. We shouldn't permit any special favors or exemptions that are not widely discussed in Congress. This is the problem with rushing legislation through without full debate." "

Off topic, but if you're going to gripe, learn to read the fucking legislation you're passing, dumbasses. Even if you don't read it all, at least have a thorough understanding of the content.

"Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 (Engrossed as Agreed to or Passed by House)

HR 2 EH

110th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. R. 2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AN ACT
To amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to provide for an increase in the Federal minimum wage.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007'.

SEC. 2. MINIMUM WAGE.

(a) In General- Section 6(a)(1) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29 U.S.C. 206(a)(1)) is amended to read as follows:

`(1) except as otherwise provided in this section, not less than--

`(A) $5.85 an hour, beginning on the 60th day after the date of enactment of the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007;

`(B) $6.55 an hour, beginning 12 months after that 60th day; and

`(C) $7.25 an hour, beginning 24 months after that 60th day;'.

(b) Effective Date- The amendment made by subsection (a) shall take effect 60 days after the date of enactment of this Act.

SEC. 3. APPLICABILITY OF MINIMUM WAGE TO THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS.

(a) In General- Section 6 of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29 U.S.C. 206) shall apply to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

(b) Transition- Notwithstanding subsection (a), the minimum wage applicable to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands under section 6(a)(1) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29 U.S.C. 206(a)(1)) shall be--

(1) $3.55 an hour, beginning on the 60th day after the date of enactment of this Act; and

(2) increased by $0.50 an hour (or such lesser amount as may be necessary to equal the minimum wage under section 6(a)(1) of such Act), beginning 6 months after the date of enactment of this Act and every 6 months thereafter until the minimum wage applicable to the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands under this subsection is equal to the minimum wage set forth in such section.
Passed the House of Representatives January 10, 2007.

Attest:

Clerk.

110th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. R. 2

AN ACT
To amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to provide for an increase in the Federal minimum wage.
"

This is not a long act to read. It has three sections. One section is dedicated to amending a law to apply to the Northern Mariana Islands. Upon reading said section, or even merely the section title, one may wonder why the Northern Mariana Islands gets special attention. One might further wonder if any other territories might still be excluded.

This isn't exactly complicated. Learn to read, and learn to think critically, and then you can learn to whine.

ummm, other than the patriot act, which I am not for, the conservatives tend to leave me alone and let me live my life

but democrats have a thing for legislating feel good laws that don't do shit

I'm in NJ right now and apparently I am "safe" up here because the dems and the idiots who have elected them up here have passed laws virtually banning possession of a firearm

ok, yeah, I'm safe because of that, all under the guise of "reducing crime"

no, you have just turned me into a potential victim, thanks assholes, I won't be returning

one city up here has passed an ordinance that virtually eliminates anyone from possessing firearms that have no external safety, no double action triggers, or barrel less than 4" long

under the guise of reducing gang violence... and this law pretty much hurts the people that need a firearm the most in a bad neighborhood (poor, women, elderly, etc)

^^No, THEY are in their own little fantasy land. Criminals do not give a fuck whether the weapons they carry are legal or not. Passing laws banning the posession of a firearm puts those who obey the law in peril because they cannot legally defend themselves against illegally armed criminals.

im not talking about the guns, im talking about the claim that except for the patriot acts no republicans are hypocrites or interfere with your business

but about the guns, in new jersey you just need a permit for a handgun. if all of the municipalities have stricter guidelines its important to note that 18 of the districts are republican.

so... you cant get a gun in new jersey? which one of those do you fit?

i mean chapter 2 even tells you what to do for your concealed carry. but keep living in your "GRRR LIBERALS" fantasy land

but you can have a handgun in new jersey, you just need a permit. i posted the state laws that explain how to get a permit. if you want to cary you can get your permit for that too.

i'd prefer something other than the republicans that are in office now also, but I damn sure don't want a liberal in office either...

I can't possess my pistol here

I can't carry it concealed here, even though almost every state in the union allows me to

I am not a criminal

more than half of the weapons I own are ILLEGAL to possess in this state, even in a home, if I were to choose to live here

so you keep choosing to be what you are, I don't care, I just ask that you leave me and my affairs alone since I am not breaking the law or harming anyone...

like I said, if you ahd the slightest clue about firearms and the laws pertaining to them, you'd realize that I'm right and that the state of NJ and a few others are trampling the constitution of the United States in the name of "safety"

but keep living in your fantasy land of utopia, gumdrop rain showers, and chocolate rivers, children singing and playing under perpetual rainbows and all that perfect world bullshit that you love oh so much

and when you need someone to help you out, I hope they make it in time

you're a goddamn idiot, you don't have a clue what you are talking about, it's a state law, not a district law, and yeah, some republicans have voted FOR this bullshit, along with ALL of the dems in this state, the only NO votes came from republicans....

PS, I'll post the votes and the laws tomorrow

unlike your bitch ass, I care about all of the rights provided to me by the constitution

so you're telling me that my guns are legal in this state and I can carry a weapon here?

well I'm saddended that I chose to leave any and all firearms at home because i thought I was being a law abiding citizen and potentially exposed myself to become a victim when I could have carried a gun up here into this hell hole

no shit jason... I know that, but apparently this jackass doesn't

and he apparently thinks that I can carry up here

he's so hung up on trying to prove to me that the laws up here aren't that much different than in NC (in his own little brain) that he is taking facts and conveniently ignoring them

it would help if he had an idea (in real life and not a video game) about what he hates

would also help if he'd mind his own business instead of worrying about what other law abiding citizens do

and he still hasn't even approached the fact that I can't carry here, and more than half of the firearms I own would land me in jail in this state(even if found in my home)... but he's all about picking and choosing rights when it comes to other laws

ok, let me reword it, why do people want to legisislate inanimate objects, IE plants and machinery?

whatever, some people don't mind if they become victims, but that doesn't mean they should force people that don't feel the same way to become victims

pot kettle black.

and i wonder if you're really all that concerned w/ protection, or if you're one of the many gun owners who feels tougher w/ a gun and identifies with them more as a surrogate giant penis than as a tool. that's the reason why i rejected the NRA, even though i am an owner myself (member of USA Shooting, the olympic org., since 1994). if someone votes solely b/c of their gun and whether or not they have to register them (no party is trying to band them outright, that won't happen anyway, it's too much a part of our culture), then they're doing a disservice to themself and democracy.

What would the framers of the constitution say? Well, it seems that the 2nd amendment has not been violated, according to the laws on the book, being that it didn't state anything with regards to issue of permits by the state which, according to the law, you should be able to get. If not, I doubt noone in the state of NJ would be interested in challenging this. Sounds like more of an instance of a crooked cop. I take it you weren't beligerent or overly demanding?

NJ is a hellhole, but mostly because it smells like shit and is just one chemical plant after another.

I AM SO ANGRY, BUT NOT REALLY, YOU ARE THE ANGRY ONE

V Well, he keeps bitching about it, no?

I don't agree guns should be banned, but they should be regulated. People who are voting for tighter restrictions though aren't bad, they're just misguided. It goes back to that phrase "those who would sacrifice freedom for safety deserve neither" or something like that.

can anyone answer how passing laws that violate the second amendment in the name of freedom is so much worse than passing laws that violate the first, fourth and fifth amendments in the name of freedom?

This thread has no room for logic or rational thought.

We simply need more guns.

Oh boy. Maybe so that states could defend themselves from outside forces or from a tyranny? You know, those things were an issue 200 years ago. I don't think they meant for every fucking redneck in 2007 to be packing heat all the time.
