These things are always so embarrassing. How will a bunch of creepy people chanting on the sidewalk affect the debate on the war?

yeah he did
I guess I'll answer

a lot of people in one place for a purpose has several effects
it raises general awareness regarding an issue and may sway decisions
media coverage can put pressure on various organizations and individuals to make decisions in order to appease public opinion

there can be an economic impact as well... enough people in the right place can paralyze business

It's not even the same situation. If a bunch of troops protested in front of Ft Bragg, that would be similar.

I don't see how a bunch of college kids and aging hippie douches are supposed to sway anyone's opinion.

I'm not trying to sway your opinion
you seem to have your mind made up

but maybe, if we're lucky, some unruly kids at the protest will destroy the property of someone like you

stop traffic on a major road for 6 hours and see how much it costs business

I said I wasn't a peacenik

[Edited on January 16, 2007 at 8:17 PM. Reason : I suppose you would advocate using violence on a peace march. how fascist of you!]

Never said you were a peacenik. I think it's funny that on one hand you're going to a peace march to protest the war but on the other hand you advocate using violence against those whose views differ from your own.

fuck the Iraq war

it is diverting resources from Afghanistan
where we should be hunting down and annihilating the Taliban - send them to a Hell I don't believe in

Aww, it's sweet that you're tying to put words in my mouth pooky, just because you support violence and I happen to disagree with your views doesn't make me a fascist (hello, 1968 wants its insult back). I happen to respect your freedom of speech and right to peacefully assembly, no matter how stupid I think you might be.

Unless you bring your own supplies of gasoline, food, water, and shelter, you are simply going to be having a positive economic impact in D.C.

If you don't like the war so much why don't you join the military and go fight in the war so there will be more soldiers and therefore it will end quicker

That is, if you really want to see the war end

LOL. Apparently you've never seen the different police forces in DC. Crime in NE doesn't bother them but when you start to move toward Capitol Hill...

YEAH! Let's destroy private property. That'll teach those politicians!

Again, you're in for a big surprise.

If the powers that be didn't change their course of action at the request of various committees, politicians and activist groups, what makes you think a group of chanting (what they perceive to be) "tree hugging hippies" protesting is going to do any good? Isn't the public opinion of the war already low? Are you really telling them anything new?

Yet you have Protest Warrior stuff in your gallery, a group known to disrupt any and every protest they don't like by instigating violence w/ their absurd strawman arguments.

I know people who've actually been shoved around by them at said events.

You mean protestors like the ones in this picture?

What's so absurd or strawman about the Civil War, WWII, or winning the Cold War? I think it says a lot more about your politics than it does about the actual facts of the wars that have been fought and why.

I think all the hippie peacenik people should be contained in one area.

I suggest someplace in Iraq where they manufacture lots of rope.

those who oppose war are mostly communists. this is so true. hillary is one, so are the democrats, right?

this is what i was referring to. war has done good, i dont deny that. the debate is whether this was a necessary war, and that argument will go on between all parties forever. who's putting words in whose mouth here?

if you're one of these people, i feel sorry for you. you cant support the troops and oppose war, if you dont support invasion of iraq you support saddam, blah, blah, blah. i cant wait till these silly arguments die off.

V who the hell is that directed at?

Against Me! is dead to me... they've abandoned their folk punk roots

I went to a Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains show last weekend
and I go see any Riot Folk! member that comes through town

and TreeTwista again fails to recognize that I am not necessarily anti-capitalist

my point is that, if you really believe in something, who cares about possibly losing your job or getting arrested? anyone serious about protesting like this wouldnt care about those possibilities...now for people who just do it because it seems cool, they probably would care
