all it does when you press the power on button is sit there and beep at me repetitively until I turn it off.
I don't know much about computers, but I know this isnt good. It was working just fine last night.
any suggestions? or am i just screwed? 1/24/2007 8:09:09 AM |

unplug the power.
unplug all the peripherals (mouse keyboard speakers USB devices)
plug it back in and restart.
then start adding things back one by one. you may need to restart each time.
i have no idea whats going on, but maybe the problem will either resolve itself, or maybe youll find that you have some broken peripheral device thats causing conflict.
or maybe youll find that your machine is smoked.
youll prolly want to find a computer geek to go look at it in person.

good thing i just bought a laptop. its still doing it after all that, so i think im probably going to have to have someone come out (god knows who..) it shouldnt be smoked though, i don't really use it that much, other than school stuff, and its only 6 months old.
anyway, thanks for the advice 1/24/2007 8:25:09 AM |

yeah thats generally not a good sign. it has been a while since that kinda thing has happened, but it is probably one of the major components. my guess would be ram or mb. 1/24/2007 9:20:38 AM |

I would bet the cpu fan is dead or unplugged. It's obvious you have power and that the psu is working somewhat properly, video cards tend to atleast display a message on the screen if you don't have their aux power plugged in (still check that). Ram could be unseated, but unlikely. Just open it up and see if there's an obvious fan blockage or if the power cable from it is disconnected or if anything else seems loose. 1/24/2007 10:54:38 AM |

thanks everyone for the advice, i kinda took a combination of everyones.. haha
unplugged the power and everything for a bit, and put everything in tightly in case some things were loose.. when i turned it on before it had a chance to "beep" at me i went into the setup menu (F2) and i dont know really why i did that, but when i exited it, everything booted up normal and has been working good ever sense..
weird
anyway, thanks 1/24/2007 11:18:30 AM |
