I searched the other threads and even posted this question in the official speeding ticket thread but no one responded.
How long do they normally give you to pay a speeding ticket? I always thought it was a month or so but I was pulled on the 15th and have to pay by the 1st (ticket was for 9 over so I'm just going to pay it). I was just about to write a check to send them when I realized it said it cannot be a personal check. Well I don't have the money in my account to pay the $180 in official check until I get paid on the 30th. So do you think if I call and ask they would give me an extra couple of days to pay it? 1/25/2007 9:32:21 AM |

the 30th is before the 1st, so just pay it after you get paid 1/25/2007 9:45:18 AM |

You should probably ask a lawyer but I think you can get that thrown out. If he clocked you at one speed and wrote a different speed that is against the rules I think or something like that. I used to work for Dept of Public Safety and HighWay Patrol and I found out a ton of tickets are thrown out because of misspellings on the ticket or just invalid information like incorrect addresses. Look into it, it may save you points on your license and money paying the ticket. 1/25/2007 3:54:50 PM |

If it's under 10 MPH on the ticket it won't affect insurance will it, in other words, paying the fine will end the issue? 1/25/2007 4:13:39 PM |

Well he did start to write the date incorrectly but crossed it out and wrote the correct date, think that'll help?
^ From what I'm told if its less than 10 over and your record is clean (mine is/was) then it won't hurt your insurance

nope, thats bullshit tickets dont get thrown out for incorrect dates and misspelled words trust me, i've had 16 tickets 14 of those were for speeding
there is no rule for the cop reducing the ticket - happened to me all the time. What the cop did was YOU a favor. Now you dont have to ask the DA to reduce it - its been reduced and if you send in the money, that is pleading guilty to speeding 9 over. You will not be fined unless the cop wrote the fine on your ticket and all it will cost is the court costs
All you have to do is pay the court costs. You dont need a lawyer for this either. THis ticket at 9 over will not go on your insurance so dont worry about paying the lawyer costs.

i suggest getting a lawyer and it reduced... nothing like a clean record

lawyer up. Its worth the money. If you get another ticket in three years, you will get points from this ticket and that ticket as well.

Typically, yes, but this is the exception. Just about every state will report out of state speeding tickets back to the home state.

as said above, the cop did you a BIG favor by writing the ticket for only 9 over. count your blessings and cut your losses while you're ahead.
Quote : | "you should really look into hiring a lawyer, they arent as expensive as you think and they can prolly get it reduced to a non moving violation

no, its not worth it. 9 over tickets don't even get sent to your insurance and (i think) they don't result in points on your license.
i've had 2 tickets dropped to 9 over and insurance (state farm) hasn't said a thing. rates haven't changed either.
pay your $50 or whatever it is (i'm sure under 100) and don't worry about it. make sure you pay by the date on the ticket though, even if you have to deliver it yourself.
TOO many people in here either don't understand the difference in insurance points and license points and/or don't understand what a prayer for judgement is and when to actually use it (this is not one of those times, btw)
AND i'm not even sure why someone posted this:
Quote : | ""1 Point: Speeding 10 mph or less in excess of a speed limit of less than 55 mph* *Points are not assigned for these violations unless the same driver has been convicted of at least one other moving violation during the experience period (the last three years). "" |
since it applies to speed limit of 55 mph or less, which is totally irrelevant to the OP's ticket.

Mike, NCSU legal services basically spoon feeds you NC Motor Vehicle Law. Just take my word for it and read the link.
Actually, I misspoke, you get one point free under 10 ticket every three years.

yah that's completely incorrect
both speeding tickets I got were written for different speeds than I was clocked at both times to help me out cause i got pulled for 20 over and would have been fucked. so he wrote the ticket for 15 over and put the real speed on the back, I managed to get both to 9 over.
it's not really worth your time, as gunzz said, to get it talked down unless you're sure you're going to get another ticket within the next 3 years.
if you get another ticket you still wont get "points from this ticket", you'll jsut basically forfeit your right to talk that ticket down ...
so if you get this 9 over ... and then get a 25 over in a year or so ... well you're SOL

its 9 over just get the envelope postmarked by the 1st, and send it to make sure it's there before your courtdate.
I seriously doubt anything bad will come from it not being in the office on exactly the 1st, at worst a late fee of some amount. 1/25/2007 11:31:10 PM |

even if it doesnt it is well worth it to get it reduced then if by some reason you happen to get another one in 3 years your record is clean

I would go with a lawyer - I recently had a ticket for 25 over, which means deep shit for me, but because the last ticket I had for 15 over got reduced to improper equipment(with a lawyer), it didn't even show up on my record. So, by having a lawyer for my previous ticket, I managed to get *another* improper equip on the 25 over, just by taking a defensive driving course because to the court it looked like my first one ever. If I had just ponied up on the other one, I'd have been fucked for sure.
Moral of the story - everyone speeds, and you'll eventually get caught, so you best watch your ass on the small tickets because it goes a long way in your favor if you ever get a big one. 1/27/2007 12:46:39 PM |

apparently no one read the thread he got a ticket for 9 over, just pay it off, get the envelope dated the 31st or 1st, they don't care if it's a day late because it would cost a ton to make it an issue. I have USAA also and it wont effect you, you can also get more tickets without effect as long as you get it reduced to 9 or less 1/28/2007 4:43:27 AM |

omg i have never seen so much stupid legal advice in one thread. even for tww. i won't waste my time on it all, just point out the most important piece. it's SOUTH CAROLINA people. pay the damn thing and forget about it, they don't report shit to nc unless you don't pay the ticket. then your license is suspended until you pay, then you get to take an official proof of payment to the dmv and pay a ~$70 fee to get it back. you do typically have a few days grace period before nc dmv would be notified of non payment though.

I don't want to create another speeding thread, so I will just bump this one. (it's the only one not locked/too old)
I just got my first ticket, pulled for going 93 in a 60. The officer told me he bumped it down to 75 in a 60 because I was "not wearing a tar heel shirt" (I was wearing a wolfpack shirt). On one part of the ticket it says I was going 75 in a 60, but in the "Departmental Use Only" part it says I was going 93.
In a normal 15-over ticket I would just go to the DA and get it dropped to 9 over, but will the 93 mph part screw things up? 3/12/2007 9:34:22 AM |
