I have a RAZR from Alltel and I can use the Motorolla Phone Tools to upload/download music, pics and video to/from my phone. My friend has the same phone, but through Verizon and the Motorolla Phone Tools will not allow him to xfer any media through the "Multimedia Studio" (this is a part of the Phone Tools). Does he need to unlock his phone, or what's the deal with the Verizon phone? 1/25/2007 5:54:20 PM |

I don't think Verizon lets you transfer music/ringtones/whatever to phones, with Bluetooth or even the data cable. I think you have to have the cable to transfer pictures.
Verizon wants you to send pictures, music, etc to your phone using their data network, or to buy the music from their music store. 1/25/2007 6:11:27 PM |

If his phone is under a different carrier, more than likely, it's been flashed with that carrier's software. As a result, your phones can be worlds different. Unlocking ain't gonna do much.

alltel did this briefly with the v710 (as did verizon)...when they both got slammed for it, alltel stopped being jackasses (to an extent)...verizon now makes it clear that they are raping you
that said, as verizon is a larger company than alltel, i'm pretty sure there are some workarounds...maybe you have to register the phone as a v3mm or mx or whatever...google it 1/25/2007 7:31:11 PM |

desh, you have to "hack" the phone's firmware to enable file transfers (music, pictures, etc). i did that with my verizon phone, motorola e815, and also did that with my old roommate's verizon phone which was a razr v3m. check out http://www.howardforums.com for detailed instructions and lots of questions and answers. 1/25/2007 7:31:13 PM |

I have a RAZR V3m with Verizon. You can transfer files. Verizon just programmed their phones to disable Bluetooth/USB file transfer and the incorrect model number on purpose.
Here are your two possible solutions:
1) You have to either use pkseem edit (hack) tool to hack the model number as a V3m.
2) Or the easy way, manually choose the "V3m" driver during startup of Motorola Phone Tools. Of course, you'll have to do this everytime you start up Motorola Phone tools. That's why hacking with the pkseem tool is the preferred way.

Verizon just wants to rape you by making you buy stuff from them. ^^Is an easy way around it, or I've heard you can flash it with Alltel's firmware. Mine's Alltel and I've had no worries. 1/27/2007 12:57:21 PM |
