My roommates and I bought a 20 gal aquarium when we moved in and a variety of fish. One of them, a silver pacu was about 2 inches when we bought it. He has now grown to about 5.5 or 6 inches and is too big for the 20 gal tank. He is very healthy, active, and eats regularly. We'd like to get around $10 for him, but will consider other offers. It would be best if he could go to a larger sized aquarium.

If you absolutely have to get rid of him I'll take him to my brother who has a 55 gallon tank.

^^you will be getting rid of him in like 2 or 3 more months if you put him in a 55 gallon. He will grow up to 12 inches or more a year.

^^^^ i bet you guys got these fish from petsmart and they failed to tell you that the Pacu can grow up to 3 feet long. They shouldnt be able to carry fish like that or at least sell them without warning people.

^^^and i sorta agree with you. on the first hand, yea...pet stores should tell you about how a fish will grow, i.e. stop passing on the old wives' tale about a fish will only grow according to the size of its tank. a fuckin fish will grow according to how it's fed. on the other hand, im a big advocate of people doing research about animals before they go out and fuckin buy them. too many impulse buyers out there who just kill their animals because they think all animals have the same general care.

so does anyone have somewhere to put him? we did research on the fish before we bought them, but i guess we skipped over how big he would get. the pet store said nothing about him getting huge, just that his size would probably be limited by the tank. we thought it was weird that he seemed to be the only fish that had grown a decent amount, but now that i've seen some pictures of how big they can get it's nothing. we've called a bunch of pet stores around the area and none of them have room for him which didn't surprise me.

I had some of those fish. The ate everything in the tank - other fish ,plants and anything else that would fit in their mouth.
