I searched and the only post that came back was /message_topic.aspx?topic=415055

my setup.

Slackware with 2.6.13 kernel
tightvnc-1.3dev7-i486-1kjz installed via slapt-get
started it using /usr/bin/vncserver
ports are opened on my home router.
I am using squid/ssh to connect from my work PC to my home PC so I shouldn't have to worry about the work network.

Accessing it from my work PC/W2k Pro
When I try to access it using firefox(proxied to my network) It says its connecting to my hostname at port 5901, I am typing hostname:5801 into the browser.

So why is it trying to connect to port 5901 if I'm telling it to use 5801?

I can post the output of the ~/.vnc/.log if needed.

Ok I found out what the problem is. I called a friend athome and had him test using http and he got the password prompt. It must be my work blocking it. Ive tried to use the tunneling in putty to bypass the work blockage but can't seem to get it.

nevermind I figured it out

Putty:
Tunnel:
source port:5901
destination: 192.168.1.5:5901 (change 192.168.1.5 to your local IP)

tightvnc:
fast compression
localhost:1

I think Hamachi would work pretty well for what you are trying to do

Maybe, but tightvnc is doing what I want at the moment and I got it working finally.
