So I come home tonight to find my 2 year old subwoofer buzzing. As far as I can tell tonight is the first time it has happened.
Buzzes with cable attached and when it is not attached.
I've tried a couple different things I've read onlilne such as changing the cable or plug it into a different source
Any ideas? 1/31/2007 9:51:11 PM |

Is it a physical vibration, or something like static in the music? 2/1/2007 10:44:49 AM |

Something is causing interference. It's either RF interference from the cable or interference from the power. Any new potential sources of RF interference (TV, monitor, flourescent bulbs, pwoer adaptors/transformers, etc...) nearby? Any thing new plugged into sockets on the same power circuit that might cause interference (e.g. cell phone charger)?
Your input could also be breaking loose and require resoldering, but that doesn't usually make the kind of noise you're describing. 2/1/2007 1:39:07 PM |

I moved it and plugged it into a different circuit. Still getting it. 2/1/2007 2:24:07 PM |

^ The transformer inside the sub may be to blame. 2/1/2007 2:36:55 PM |

Sounds like a ground loop problem. If so, remove the ground by using a 3 to 2 prong adapter. 2/1/2007 5:58:30 PM |

Try leaving it turned on, but unplugged for a while, then plug it back in. 2/1/2007 7:03:44 PM |

I have fixed it but am still looking for a reason why.
I took it apart today. I found one of the connections was loose so redid all of the internal connections. I cut it on but still had the buzz so I left it going and started moving around wires to see if it was interference. One of the wires was tied to a heatsink. I cut the wire tie and pulled it away and the buzz stopped. I haven't figured out why it just started now but it was definately the cause. 2/1/2007 7:46:39 PM |

Ok guys I've been messing around with it tonight trying to get the back cover back on. I put it back on and got the buzzing back. so I took the cover off and the buzzing was still there. I started moving that wires around again and go the problem to stop. Now I've taped the wires up with scotch tape (couldn't find my electrical tape), the sound is gone but I've found I can move the wires to any position and not get the buzz.
Sort of an odd occurrence. can any of you guys explain it? 2/4/2007 10:11:11 PM |

^ It works the exact same as the ones in a car. If you know what's going on there, you'll know what's happening here. Drop some knowledge or you'll just be a troll. 2/5/2007 11:25:49 AM |
