would it be possible to add a course this late in the semester? I wanted to add Bowling (Distance Education) to my schedule because I'm dropping a course and I need to stay full time. I wouldn't be behind in the course or anything, I mean really it's just bowling and you read a book and take a skills test. I just didn't know since the date had passed whether or not it was even considered. I emailed Tom Evans, so I'm hoping I'll be able to get in. 2/3/2007 7:32:40 PM |

you will have to get 3 people's permission
1) professor 2) department head of said professor's department 3) your dean
they will have to sign a schedule revision form which you will get from location #2. after everyone signs, bring it to R&R and we will add the class before we drop the other. 2/3/2007 8:36:39 PM |

^^ Unfortunately, the burden is on you (not them) to make this happen ... you might have to stretch yourself a bit to get it done. Try to schedule a day to get it all done, with all parties agreeing to meet you are a certain time. I.e. Professor meets you at 8am to sign, then department head at 11am, then dean at 3pm. If thats not possible, you can also wait for it to route through the proper channels, and just start going to the class in the meantime. 2/4/2007 12:49:13 PM |

I'm kind of in your situation, can this be pulled off, and how does distance ed bowling work? 2/5/2007 1:05:58 AM |

so what if i cant drop the course to add another one and i fail it - im still under freshman status but im in my second year because i didnt take but 12 credit hrs per semester - could i do the course repeat without penalty? or do they consider me 'second year'? 2/5/2007 7:16:23 PM |

it doesnt matter how many hrs you have passed or what your official standing is with the university - the policy is a "first year" course repeat not a "freshman" course repeat.

^^ Sounds like your situation is getting complex in a hurry. I'd recommend giving Virtual Advising a shout (http://www.ncsu.edu/advising_central/), as they have a very broad general knowledge across multiple majors and colleges. They can probably find an option that will work for you ... and you don't have to stop by in person to get options from them.

you could try to add a PE that doesnt start until later in the semester. a lot of time they are more willing to let students in late.
just search for "begins" on the Schedule of Courses at http://www2.acs.ncsu.edu/reg_records/tracs_bk/sprg/courses/PE.html 2/5/2007 9:09:03 PM |

^ There's a difference between can't and won't. I had one course I was supposed to finish up over my final summer which met MW nights. My roommate changes his mind and moves out late June, I end up in Charlotte for 6-8 weeks. I drove 6 hours a day twice a week to graduate. Again, there are probably other options out there. Email or pick up the phone to somebody. 2/5/2007 10:25:50 PM |

take the skiing class, if they haven't taken the trip yet. that class is basically one 'orientation' class on campus and then a skiing trip, i think. 2/6/2007 10:01:12 AM |
