What happens when I play a DVD on a non HD DVD player on a High Def Television?

Will the picture be any better than before (when I didnt have an HD Television)?

I'm retarded when it comes to this stuff, so apologies for the multiple threads on HD stuff.

Ever play a DVD on your computer? Ever notice how on a computer screen, the image gets enlarged to fill the screen with the result bring that you can see the pixelation and the compression artefacts? The same things happens with a normal DVD on a highdef screen. There will be a difference is results depending on the connection type. If your player upconverts or uses a digital connection, it will look very similar to a DVD on a computer. Otherwise, the image still gets enlarged, but there is more bluring. You'll lose some clarity (note: you wouldn't have had that clarity on a normal TV, you just notice it more on the high-def), but you won't notice the pixelation and the compression artefacts as much. If you go to an electronics store with a helpful staff, I'm sure they would be happy to set up a compare and contrast demonstration for you (let me know if you find said store, I'll shop there more).

jesus.

why did I buy an HD TV?

LOL.

Direct TV wants to absolutely rape me with the $299 HD DVR, and now I find out that my DVD's are going to look like crap.

this hurts. Right in the wallet.
