Quote : | "North Carolina State. As of last Monday, the Wolfpack were 1-5 in the ACC and sitting below teams that ranged from "Peyton Manning-good" (UNC) to "Rex Grossman-bad" (Miami). But with wins over Virginia Tech (on the road) and North Carolina last week, the Wolfpack can settle for being the caliber of, say, Eli Manning. NC State was led by a solid foursome of Brandon Costner, Ben McCauley, Gavin Grant, and Courtney Fells, who combined to score 125 of the team's 153 points last week." |
Yeah, Atsur was not a factor in either win at all.
Quote : | " Can't say I saw this coming. That would be a lie. But what I did see way back in November, when NC State came back to beat Michigan in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, was a team that had plenty of heart, desire and passion, and believed in everything its first-year coach said. The Wolfpack maybe didn't get enough credit earlier in the week for a surprising win at Virginia Tech. Maybe that was because the win came on the same night Indiana beat Wisconsin, while Texas' Kevin Durant lit up Texas Tech for 37 points and 23 rebounds. But clearly the victory in Blacksburg set up Saturday's raucous win over rival North Carolina.
The atmosphere at the RBC Center seemed Stanley Cup-like, at least through the TV screen. The Wolfpack continued to attack the Tar Heels and never seemed to be fazed as UNC responded.
What has made this season so hard to predict is the way the Tar Heels smoked Arizona one Saturday in Tucson only to get pushed around, and look a bit displaced, seven days later in Raleigh against a collection of gritty players.
Every game will still be a struggle for the Wolfpack, but be certain about this: NC State won't be an easy out under Sidney Lowe. This week, the Wolfpack became the headline team in The Triangle -- and with UNC and Duke as competitors, that's something to savor. " |

Another ESPN article:
Quote : | "NC State is starting to believeposted: Saturday, February 3, 2007 | Feedback | Print Entry
NC State started to believe it could beat North Carolina after taking out Virginia Tech earlier in the week.
According to NC State assistant coach Monte Towe, the Wolfpack took a basic approach toward Saturday's stunner. If they could beat Virginia Tech, which beat North Carolina, then why couldn't they beat the Tar Heels, too?
Well, they did, by never believing they were inferior. Towe said by phone Saturday that having a healthy Engin Atsur at the point, after spending most of the season watching him heal from a hamstring injury, is the main difference with N.C. State right now.
And the feeling around the locker room, according to Towe, is that Sidney Lowe won't let this team quibble. He said Lowe's demeanor and NBA background of coming up with ways to score is helping this team continue to improve and define itself as a gritty bunch.
Towe said that Lowe is also reaching back into the NC State past for inspiration. The most famous Wolfpack alumnus, David Thompson, was at Saturday's game in Raleigh and Towe said he spoke to the team after the game. Getting Thompson and past players like him back in the fold and guiding this program has boosted the Wolfpack's confidence.

i know that our area is commonly referred to as "the triangle"
but how well-known is that name around the country?
about what percent of people in other areas (CA, AZ, NY, etc) know what the triangle is when they hear it? 2/5/2007 6:00:35 PM |

Quote : | "TEAM OF THE WEEK: North Carolina State
Sidney Lowe had to be proud of his Wolfpack after back-to-back wins over teams that were leading the ACC at the time of their game. First came a stunner at Virginia Tech, followed by a big victory over Roy Williams' Tar Heels.
COACH OF THE WEEK: Sidney Lowe, NC State
Most prognosticators figured the Wolfpack would contender for the basement in the ACC. Engin Atsur has been sidelined for much of the season. Andrew Brackman opted for baseball. NC State stunned Virginia Tech and North Carolina and let me tell you, Lowe is going to be a star down in Raleigh. He has a cool demeanor and he will get the job done. " |

I dont understand why writers/reporters keep talking about how Brackman didnt come back this year, but NEVER talk about losing Cedric Simmons to the NBA?
Brackman was good and all, but I think Simmons would be dominant if he decided to stay 2/5/2007 7:36:05 PM |
