Okay I am sorry but the Grammy's need to label artist correctly. The Dixie Chicks are not a country group there music is not played on any country station I listen too. The grammy's gave them all the awards because what they "went through". any ideas on this? 2/11/2007 11:31:19 PM |

90% of the listeners of country music radio stations are conservative.
Dixie chicks dont do so hot with that crowd, but their music is more country sounding than anything else. 2/11/2007 11:33:16 PM |

The Dixie Chicks' Grammy wins were simply an anti-Bush political statement by other left-wing artists. Next will come the talk show rounds and the question, "Do you feel vindicated?" If it weren't for the current political environment, the group at issue would probably not have received the awards. 2/12/2007 12:01:58 AM |

Yes, the Grammys are aligned against the Bush administration because they hate America and want to see us fail in Iraq.
Or maybe it really was a good album.
Most country music these days is hardly country anyhow.

Did I not already give you the answer you want? They won it because the liberal media wanted to vindicate them as the persecuted opponents of our wonderful president. It was all a political ploy. They will campaign for Barack Obama now.
You know what? They probably did get it for that. Who fucking cares?
Why do you care so much? Why are you always getting upset about stupid shit like what Cindy Sheehan said or what the Dixie Chicks do or how Al Gore made up global warming for political gain or whatever you think he did it for? I think they sounded a little silly at the Grammy's, but hey, it's their moment in the spotlight, and like their lyrics, it's their choice whether they want to accept graciously or literally quote elementary school-aged cartoon characters to express some sense of vindication.
I've said this before about the Dixie Chicks: they had every right to make the criticisms they wanted about the administration, but to act all surprised and cry censorship because their listeners expressed a very different response to their lyrics is a rather incomplete view of first amendment rights. 2/12/2007 9:25:44 AM |

I believe that they have the right to say what they want. Country music fans have decided not to listen to them. I doubt you will see them on the American country music awards program. I do not beleive that if you are not played on country stations that you should be given a country award. It was a political statment but make the chicks sing in pop. When Why not give Nelly the best selling CD when he sang about Country grammer. that was just as country as the dixie chicks songs. 2/12/2007 9:43:45 AM |

The Dixie Chicks are played on some country radio stations, but not others. Also, they are more "country" than half the artists you hear on country corporate radio (even if their newer stuff is less so). Hell, I don't think Rascal Flatts should get country music awards, but they haven't alienated the nashville record industry and country radio community.
However, I really don't really get into awards shows anyway. 2/12/2007 10:13:46 AM |

yeah you're right, if you're a country singer, it's a bad business decision to alienate the majority of your fan base... that would be like a famous rapper coming out in support of a racist politician
I honestly hope the dixie chicks, rascall flatts, big and rich, cowboy troy, and trace adkins all fly in the same plane and it gets shot down and lands in a volcano

so only the top 40 radio folks should be given awards?
should bob dylan have not been given an award because he generally isn't played on rock radio? or flaming lips either?
i mean i think the grammy's are a real disgrace to the music industry (purely from the fact that they nominate so much trash). but you seem to be in support of making it even more about only nominating people with huge corporate backing and commercial success.2/12/2007 10:24:44 AM |

I agree^ if you are not well recieved by the title of the music your in how can you win an award for best album song and such from that category. Country music is changing and has gone into the pop area trying to sell more records. I don't like most of this new pop country either. I just think the Grammy's made a public statement that they do not respect country music or its listeners. The dixie Chicks themselves said they are not country. If a group says they are not a certain type of music why give them and award in tat area. 2/12/2007 10:26:18 AM |

Unchained, Johnny Cash's second album with Rick Rubin, won a Grammy in 1998 but they couldn't get it played on radio to save their lives.
Are the Grammy's totally about the artist? No. Does it matter? Not really. If the Dixie Chicks are doing what they believe in, because they believe in it, I applaud them for following their art and not their wallet. It doesn't entitle them to public support nor does a stupid statue automatically validate either their politics or their music. Meh.
And as far as modern "real" country is concerned: Robert Earl Keen FTW

First, anyone that thinks I am mad about this is a fucking dumbass. Pinko's typical bullshit posts were the only thing that I found even mildly annoying here.
Second, I was merely responding in a thread about the subject at issue--like any other. Piss off.
Third, I didn't start the goddamned thread. Take out your hatred for anything even slightly right of center somewhere else.
Fourth, I can't decide if the oft-suspended State409c should fellate a jackass or a goat--or the other way around. Try both, dickhead.
Fifth, I was simply making a point. Anyone who thinks that the Dixie Chicks wins did NOT make a political statement is in serious denial. In addition, I find it laughable that some of you who are so vigorously defending this country group wouldn't be caught dead listening to country music. You know I’m right, so fuck off.
