im upgrading motherboards (for the PCI-E) slot, and got another video card at the same time for my socket 939 CPU. I figure i should prob format the HD before install. So, whats the best way to back up 30-40 gigs of crap?

Partitioning works well. It's what I do for reformatting.

If not that, borrow a HD from someone, or put it all on 10 DVDs and have a backup.

DVD is the safest route. Screwing with partitions is just asking for something screw up and zap your data.
