Judge sentences girl to abort baby
13 year old had to abort because of a judge ruling

Alan Zammit 17 February 2007

An Italian judge ordered a 13 year old girl from Torino to abort her unborn child because her parents were opposed to the baby.

Italian legislation states that a minor is not allowed to decide whether to abort or not and the 'decision' falls entirely on the guardians or parents.

The shocking story was brought into light by Italian newspaper La Stampa in which the paper reports that the girl didn't want to abort the baby but had to after the ruling. She then had to receive treatment after telling her parents she was going to attempt a suicide.

The girl got pregnant by her 15 year old boyfriend but despite this she still wanted to keep the baby.

However her parents were very angry and demanded an abortion. After the abortion the girl went into a frenzy and threatened she was going to kill herself.

"The unborn baby is still a life and I defend life whatever the situation." Severino Poletto, Archbishop of Torino told the paper.

"Society must take of this child. I certainly oppose abortions but this case allows us to reflect on the situation. We have to take a step back and ask ourselves how this could have happened to a 13 year old girl." he added.

That is kinda depressing, but at the same time if the girl can't support herself or the child then she was killing it anyway if the parents decided to drop her.

I could understand having to turn the baby over for adoption but forcing her to abort??... that's unrealistic.

Now, I'm 110% for Abortion. I will support that until the day I die. But not when it's forced. Abortion is an option, not a requirement.

i think children have some right in what procedures are done to them, particularly if there is no potential physical harm to the child.

Well i believe this is a fake thread. But secondly Its her body if she wants to have it I say let her. Then force her to drop out of school get a job pay and raise the baby with her 15 yera old b/f. As long as people cover up there kids mistakes they will continue to make them without worrying about it. Lots of girls i knew thought having a kid would be great when there were really young until the first one had one. Then they all got smart.

^^that's great and all. but should a family be allowed to force a child to have cosmetic surgery just because they wanna? this abortion is not medically required. allow the parents to put the baby up for adoption, sure.

The girl and the parents will secretly thank the judge, later. It's the best thing to do in this situation.

it seems like it might be a little sensationalized (or invented) to stir things up by the catholics/pro-lifers.

another reason the decision wasn't left to her, because she was too stupid to realize that she would not be able to raise it in any more of a lifestyle than barely above poverty, if that

anyone read freakanomics? brought up a very interesting point about abortion. crime dropped drastically in the 90s and most people attribute it to tougher laws and shit like that. the people that wrote that book however attribute it to the roe v wade decision. the reason being that the majority of people born as mistakes/accidents/whatever are in low-income families and are drastically more likely to become criminals.

I read freakonomics, and if you did too, then you'd realize that has nothing to do with this case.

this is about FORCED abortion.

not row vs. wade, where the CHOICE to abort an unwanted baby was made legal.

If you think this is a good idea, how do you feel about forced sterilization for girls in "low income" families?

there's no reason to force sterilize children in low-income families. there is a reason to abort children born to parents who have absolutely no capability to raise them

and no i understand what the issue is, i was simply expressing the fact that the end result, her aborting the child, was absolutely the correct thing to do. i do accept the fact though that it is pretty fucked up she wasn't able to make that decision herself. then again, she's a minor, and that's pretty much how the shit rolls

all in all, i think the judge made the correct decision. and obviously her CHOICE was to have the baby which would have had a hiiiigh probability of coming back to bite society in the ass. sometimes people are too young and stupid to make well informed decisions that have consequences for the future

the judge upheld the laws of italy. I believe Italy like many european countries still apply coveture.

furthermore, we cannot even say if this happened or not.

I personally think with little kids that we baby them to much these days. my dad and mom let me make my own decisions and suffer the concequences. If we keep letting kids screw up and then fix there problems what is that teaching our youth? its okay to screw up mommy and daddy will take care of things. Of course having a child is a more indepth problem. I beleive that parents need to tlak to there kids more about sex and having baby's at a younger age if not they will find out this way.

this really should be locked. this really seems like a fabricated story. the only "news" agencies that have picked up on this are pro-life websites. the one actual paper that originally ran the story pulled it later that same day.

^looks like it...let me try something very crude

"Obliged to miscarry 13 years

Was just to compel interrupt it the pregnancy?

After the intervention ends in psychiatry. The leading one: "And 'been a violence "CHARM LONGO TURIN Valentina, 13 years, is little more of a little girl. And yet it did not want to separate itself from who it heard to grow inside of himself. It planted, it yelled, it insulted, but to the end it won the law and was compelled to miscarry. She then began again to cry, to I yell. "Me l' have make kill and now m' I kill I, m' I kill" said the parents. It was not joking, the pain and the despair I am exploded to a such level to ask for a hospitalization d' urgency to the psychiatric department of the Queen Daisy.

It is l' hospital of the children of Turin, where Valentina - a body of woman grown too in hustle - from a week is lost and confused. Its boy forbid to meet them, a student of 15 years, because want to protect it from the strong emotions but also from the desire of to escape. "I here I do not want to be us - continuous to repeat - I is not crazy, I am alone badly like a dog for what my parents and the judges obliged to do me". On its psychological conditions they keep watch the medical, began a psychotherapy to learn to find if same. While its mother now it is tormented to have profaned the desire of the daughter. A desire surely in controtendenza with how much usual happens in same circumstance, because is difficult to meet a thirteen-year-old that wants to become mommy. To itself all' miscarriage, I am often those catholic parents that convince the daughter to bear a baby to yield in adoption.

This time it did not go so. Valentina wanted that child, wanted it to all of the costs. But to an underage one it is not granted to choose: the approval all' risqué miscarriage to the family. The judge to protect some Tribunal of the minor, contacted from the consultorio or from the territorial services, questions the minor to appraise which is the solution that better protects it. They exist however reasons of the heart and dell' difficult soul to survey, above all when is itself so young. And when, like in this case, also the family shows difficulty to manage a so complex situation and delicate. The parents of Valentina have except for of 40 years, I am working-class and have not other sons. When they have uncovered the pregnancy had not hesitations. "You are too small, cannot ruin yourself the life so". Valentina wanted to rebel itself, explained and explained again that although the its 13 years, wanted to go ahead. "I cannot throw this child - implored - wanted to you understand myself". No it straight line given them. The motive I am easily intuibili, first between everything the difficulty for a girl of 13 years and a boy of 15 of to become parents. Valentina attends the third media, has desire to amuse itself, of to go I amuse with the friends, to the cinema, in disco. Also hour that is in hospital regrets the afternoons and the evenings with its fifteen-year-old boy.

It is able, to quest' age, to put the world a son? Valentina was (and perhaps the is still) convinced of yes. After l' interruption of pregnancy, all' hospital Sant' Anna, l' inevitable the sudden fall. Hysterical crisis, threats of suicide, pain to the stars. The psychiatrists dell' Asl did not lose not even a moment and arranged the hospitalization d' urgency in the psychiatric department dell' Daisy Queen hospital. The girl you have arrived in ambulance, to sirens explained, a week does. And its future? The leading one of childlike neuropsichiatria, Roberto Rigardetto, is worried.

"Valentina has clear subìto a terrible violation - observes - because l' aggression that all condemns you' miscarriage is the same one of what forbids to do it. It is discussed always of a limitation of the personal freedom. It is itself true it has alone 13 years, but the adolescents of today are different from those of 20 years does. It would have been better than it did not remain pregnant, it is obvious, but they neglect not his intention like instead happened". According to the professor Rigardetto, besides, is improper also the permanence in hospital. "Valentina is not a psychological sick person, its pathology is the pain subìto. It would be better, before to return house, in a community I live". Always that it wants to go us.

"

a bad translation of the article verbatim...unintentionally humorous if you read it as if someone is trying to speak english but i'm pretty sure it at least shows that its a real story
