Who has gone, where did you stay, what do you recommend? Me and about 4 - 5 other guys are planning on going this year and none of us have been. Thx.

awesome experience.

Shell out the dough and stay right on the river (but at this point, thats impossible, b/c everything is sold out), you would not regret it.

If you havent gottenn a place yet, you may be out of luck. Its by far THE place to be for St. Patty's day in the southeast, and its only gotten bigger since Katrina wiped out New Orleans.

seriously, I'd work on getting a place IMMEDIATELY.

^ Yeah, we're realizing that now We're all Army and figured we'd try Hunter Army Air Field but its booked too. So I suppose we're looking for 2nd and 3rd string places to stay.

everything panthro said is true.

I remember when we'd pack 20 people into a shitty hotel room. we were all too drunk to care.

its awesome....we stayed a few miles out, took a taxi in, and then ended up convincing some kids (like 16 year olds) to drive us back to our hotel in the back of their pickup truck afterwards since it was impossible to find a cab once everything shut down.

its a hell of an experience though. definately something not to miss.

I think the whole downtown drinking scene is overrated. I just like to see all of the chaos that decends on Savannah every year. It's pretty much like being at the state fair with no rides.

^then you must either be:

1) homosexual
2) pussy-whiped
3) a lamer with no game what-so-ever
4) ungodly ugly (everybody gets action down there. I saw this dude with the nastiest cleft lip ever hookin' up with some random)

Wait...you are saying that the partying on the cobblestone boardwalk + jazz music blasting + crawfish eating + green beer downing + sucking face with a hot ass chick that you wont ever see again = overrated?

That is one of the single most absurd things I have ever heard.

do not listen to that man.

It is one of the best times my friends and I have ever had together.

Well I'm debatably a: "3) a lamer with no game what-so-ever" and will probably be the DD, so at worst I'll wind up taking one for the team and just watching the world go by, but I'm down with that.

Another question, this year St. Patricks is on a Saturday, will that be the big night or will the weekend run its course Friday evening?

Oh, I see.

Now I dont have pictures posted, so I won't go too far into this. I wish I did, so I could.

But I just looked at your photo gallery and I see now whay you arent thrilled about Savannah.

You have potential to be the dreaded 1 through 4 combo.

I suggest YOU dont EVER go.

And as for the "no green beer" thing. I call bullshit. I drank that shit all day until I puked my heart out (at lunch) then carried on for the remainder of the day.

Green beer is there, you must first find it.

The cobblestones are the fucking bomb too. The town is rich in history and the roads are part of that. Its like going to the old Boston Garden and saying "ohhhh, parkay floors, big deal." No, its not a big deal, unless you care about the history of the place you are seeing.

Went once - it was fun, reminded me off Mardi Gras. Lots of beads, boobs, and alcohol. Not nearly as skanky as Mardi Gras though and much safer.

It was very fun when we went But we were on our way to the FLA Keys and St. Patty's just happened to fall on the Saturday or so on the way down. So we stopped in Savannah on our way that night to party but we didn't do too much cuz we had some drivin to do the next day. but we still had a blast

i wouldnt listen to this LADY.
you dont need an occasion to do any of the things he mentioned, and its not that special in savannah. if SHE had any game, SHE'D know that.

anyways, i'll probably be there. if only to watch dumbasses like panthro.

LOL, I lived there for a year, and lived in the historic part of town. I know all about the history. Most locals consider River St. very touristy and avoid it when possible. And yeah, you don't really know me and you have no pics of yourself up, so I'd be very careful about where you tred with your statements sir.

i was there in 2002 and there was plenty of green beer. it was mostly being sold by the "carny type" vendors on the opposite side of the street as all the bars.

if you want to go puke in the river with a bunch of frat boys and tourists, then that's one option

if you want to puke in the streets with the locals then you can do that too

either way it's a fun time

Long before the wife, mate.

I went in 2000 and 2001. Met my wife in early 2002 and got married in 2004.

Savannah is not a couples thing, so don't bring the lady.

Savannah is great! I would recommend my parents' place but I doubt they would like it.

Be careful on the cobblestreets while drunk, this past weekend I almost twisted my ankle like 4 times...

Disregard that statement. Savannah is one of the most romantic cities down south.
Depending on the girl, St. Paddy's can be lots of fun.

^^ yeah it was, kinda overrated actually. The place was great during the day, but by around 9 it felt like everyone was waiting around for something to happen. It might have been better if it hadn't been so damn cold after the sun went down. (Not that it was that cold, but it was jacket and jeans weather). Standing in line 30 minutes to pee is not cool.

Overall 6.5/10 would not go again.

Although, we did see a pig of a woman sitting on a park bench at 8:30 at night watching her kids play in one of the sand pits along the river. Random people were coming in and wrestling with her kids but she just yelled at the random folks to not hurt her kids. Didn't even get up. One time she had to chase one of them down and she asked this drunk blond next to her to watch her kids.
