I am wondering if it is possible to have a dual monitor setup using a standard CRT and a laptop. I did a quick search in google and couldn't find anything on this exact set up. Has anyone ever done this before, and if so, how does it differ from using two stand-alone monitors.

Thanks

If you laptop has a VGA port on the back...yes.

Just hook up the monitor to it, and right click on the desktop, click properties. on the display settings click on settings, and you should see a drop down box talking about 1 and 2. setting them up accordingly and you are set.
