Hi guys. One of my rescue dogs ran away today from his foster home off of Ten-Ten Rd. in Apex. his picture is in my gallery as "Declan". He is a 3 yr old, red merle, neutered male aussie. He is skittish but friendly. He has on a blue collar with paw prints but no tags. He is microchipped. If you see him please let me know.

thank you.

Good luck. If I saw him I'd have a hard time returning him.

I worry that he might not come up to a stranger. So if anyone sees me they can let me know and i will try to go get him. He trusts me somewhat. He has only been in the rescue for ~2 weeks, 1 week with me and then 1 week with his latest foster dad.

They are awesome dogs but not for everyone. I had 2 at different times growing up and now we have one that I got through the rescue. You can check them out at http://www.carolinasaussies.net

i probably have some pics of some of the dogs in my gallery.

I'm considering getting an Aussie. Once we have a house of course. Since you deal with them could you list some of the pros and cons. I know they are very smart and require a "job" to keep them happy and balanced. But how are they with cats, small dogs? I know they herd but could they be trained not to herd the other house animals?

Yay - so glad you found him! My folks live around out that way... just out of curiosity, with all of the natural land out there, how did y'all find him?

The next morning he was in the front yard.

Pros: Extremely intelligent, fun, active, loyal, velcro, beautiful, wary of strangers
Cons: Extremely intelligent, active, can be barkers, wary of strangers

Many people want them b/c they are pretty but can't handle them. They out smart ( i am not joking) their owners and can be extremely active. They are not couch potatoes and need both mental and physical stimulation. You can run them and work them but if they don't have the mental part of it, they aren't exhausted. They are extremely loyal to their owners, which annoys some people. They aren't a dog that you can just "throw" in the back yard. They will get bored and destructive. Many can escape out of fences if they get bored enough. Just like with any dog, some are not good with small animals and cats but some are. Depends on if they were raised with them and how their pack leader corrects them.

I have been fostering aussies for over 2 years and probably 80% have been good with cats. I don't have small animals so I can't tell you about that. My current aussie is great with everything beside strangers. they scare the shit out of him. He was also from a pretty severe neglect case though, so it is just going to take time.

If you do decide to get one, be ready to do obedience a lot.
