When I try to import a cd to Itunes, it is showing that it will use 500 megs, seems a bit large, does anyone know how to make it smaller? Thanks 3/4/2007 10:04:45 PM |

edit > preferences > advanced > importing
choose the format you want (mp3, wav, aac, etc) and the bit rate.
if doing mp3, go for 160 or 192, if doing aac, go for 128. a cd should take 60-80 MB. 3/4/2007 10:15:50 PM |

on AAC you shouldn't be getting 500 MB for a CD, even if you use 320 kbps, which is the highest bit rate.
at that rate, a typical cd would take 200-250 MB at the most. 3/4/2007 10:20:11 PM |

FYI the cd is the joshua tree by U2. Well I know people put dozens of albums on their 20-30gb Ipods and i figured at 500 megs you can only fit 50-60 albums/cds which is a lot less than what they have

yeah i don't see how a cd would take up 500 MB if you are doing AAC at what, 128 kbps?
someone needs to come over to your place and investigate.
sorry, can't do much more from here.
p.s. i don't think it matters what cd it is... they all have an upper limit being audio cds. 3/4/2007 10:36:03 PM |

well when I imported the Cd at the bottom prior to importing, it said 508MB, then when I imported it, it said my total sapce usage was 4.22 Gb and only went to 4.30 Gb, so I guess it worked out 3/6/2007 6:51:38 PM |

^^Dude, that's the size of the uncompressed audio on the CD. When it is importing, it lists the information for the CD. The compressed tracks are added to you library one at a time.
