I don't know what specifically prompted me to pick Georgetown to win it all in every single bracket I picked (over Florida...btw), but I did

So this is the thread for Georgetown since there are threads for other stuff...and if I'm somewhat right about my picks this thread should at least live through the opening 2 rounds lol

I have them knocking UNC out after UNC barely beats Texas...one thing that prompted me to pick Georgetown is their strong frontcourt...7'2" Roy Hibbert could easily give Hansbrough and Noah fits...anyway here are a few stats about the Hoyas for the casual fan:

Notable alumni: Allen Iverson, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo

2007 Record: 27-6
Big East Record: 13-3 (1st place)
Big East Conference Champs

02/21 at Cincy W 75-65
02/24 #8 Pittsburgh W 61-53
02/26 at Syracuse L 72-58
03/03 UConn W 59-46
03/08 Villanova W 62-57
03/09 #16 N Dame W 84-82
03/10 #11 Pittsburgh W 65-42
03/15 vs Belmont W 80-55
03/17 vs BC TBD

Also they were down early in today's gave against BELMONT like 11-3 or something but they ended up beating them by about 25

anyway...thats pretty much the thread so far

btw, the only team they lost to who didnt make the NCAA tournament is Syracuse, and they're certainly a pretty decent opponent

I also have them as National Champs, not for any reason other than for the hell of it. And it looks like a decent strength schedule to get there

I also am one who has them to win it all. Watching them play is like watching a watered down episode of And 1, and by watered down I mean more organized.

Ha Jared Dudley called the Big East a soft conference, and said you don't get to pad the schedule with easy games in the ACC.

I have the Hoyas winning the whole thing, and I hope they come back and beat BC into the ground...and maybe Jared Dudley will sprain his ankle or something

myth. dc is very very SECURE. theres just a few bad areas away from downtown that skew statistics.

this is a general question. does the ACC play a lot quicker than most other conferences? it's felt like a lot of slow basketball being played lately.

Its generally the offense that the coach runs...BC doesnt really run an up tempo offense and they're in the ACC...Wisconsin runs Herb Sendek type slow basketball in the Big 10...Tennessee loves to run and they're in the SEC...State doesnt really run all the time in the ACC but UNC likes to...just varies

not bc but clemson maryland gt and unc play fast fast fast and press. thats 1/3 of the acc thats faster than most of the nation.

bc ncsu wake play slower styles 1/4th the acc

and duke vt uva fsu miami play mixed depending on the opponent. those 5 probably are on the faster end of the middle of the spectrum though.

so with the exception of 3 teams its pretty fast.

big 10 is slow as shit. big12 is kind of slow. sec is fast. big east and pac10 are more of a mix.

[Edited on March 17, 2007 at 6:36 PM. Reason : so acc is pretty fast in general]

I think we play more to our opponent, though. We can win in the 60s, or win/lose in the 80s

bye bye BC

teams played each other earlier in the season, but it was very early so obviously both teams have come a long way, especially vandy who early on looked like they were heading for a losing record.

statistically, these teams match up decently, but when it really comes down to it, georgetown poses some matchup problems for vandy. I think green will have a great game and probably be too much for vandy to overcome especially because vandy will probably die by the 3 (since they lived by it in the first two rounds)

that being said, vandy seemed to play well this season against teams with a good, dominant big man even though the post is their biggest weakness. vandy is capable of the upset and in my heart I want them to, but my prediction is

GU - 78
VU - 70

Georgetown is probably the most boring team in college basketball.

Hibbert is garbage. He lumbers slowly up and down the court and plays the slowest, stiffest defense ever. It makes me sick. He's 7'2" with enough going for him, but he could be one of the great players, but instead he's like, "I don't really feel like trying..."

Fucking Eeyore.

^ you didn't watch too many games did you? G'Town is athletic, disciplined, and very good.

People who don't understand the sport just seem to hear Princeton offense and think they are boring or their biased attitude toward Sendek don't understand how a P-offense team can score. Not saying you don't understand the sport, but you obviously haven't seen too much of them. Jeff Green is the best, unheralded player in the country. He can absolutely take over a game and Hibbert is the most improved freshman to junior player since Okafor..

I'm not biased against the Princeton offense or anything. When it works, it's a beautiful thing to see.

But I do think Georgetown is boring. The only games I've seen them play are the ones in this tournament. And it's been boring.
