if you had a legit pre-installed copy you can dell and they will ship you a set of restore discs free of charge.

google "control f11" for dell boxes.

they dont ship the MCE XP restore CD's.

cntrl fll initiates the symantec system restore. It'll take it back to just like it left the factory. You just need to find out exactly when to press cntrl f11. Its during the boot process just after the main dell screen.

yeah i could wait the couple days but i don't see why anyone would not give me a burned copy of theirs if anyone has it...it's not like i'm gonna use their cd-key. my key is on the bottom of my laptop.

^^ whoops...you said they don't give out oem cd's for windows media center? are you sure? also i deleted the partition on the recovery drive.

yea, just use the built in system restore, unless you've already wiped that

I would download one of the Windows 9-1 CDs off of the torret network, assuming you're using your own key. They normally have media center included.

good question, i dont think so. it has OEM XP Pro and Home but doesn't look like the Media Center is OEM.

I ran this google search:
http://www.google.com/search?q=xp+media+center+oem+iso&hl=en&rls=SUNA%2CSUNA%3A2006-25%2CSUNA%3Aen

and got this (and theres others too):

was just thinking...i think all versions of windows media center are oem. they don't sell it retail. pretty sure it's all oem.

i went through the same shit about 2 months ago. although i didnt delete my system restore partition.

how did you delete that by the way. it seems it would take a concious effort to delete that drive.

they dont ship with the unit, but im sure they would send them to you.

also try the dell live chat and see if they can offer you anything.

dell's "MCE" cd is kind of a bastard child... it's really just windows XP pro with MCE components added.

the actual MCE is based on windows xp home.

I COULD BE WRONG THOUGH.

rrright, thats why ive used two different 9-1 cds over the last 3-4 years that are totally clean. i'm sure there are bad ones (though i haven't found one yet), but as long as people are smart enough to scan any application they download all is good.
