-UConn has five players averaging in double figures, and this is Geno Auriemma's 14th straight Sweet Sixteen Appearance, UConn averages 81.6 pts a game, and in order for State to be effective we are going to have to slow the game down like we did against Baylor, adn know when to take our easy fast break transistion baskets. Gillian Goring for NCSU has 4 inches on UConn's tallest player so we are going to have to get her involved in the offense quickly!
If Whittington, Ashely Brown, and Marquetta Dickens reached the double figures mark, and we keep the Huskies in the 50's or 60's...then the Pack will be in GREAT Shape...Ill be rooting you guys on at one of the local sports bars with buds of mine..GO PACK...It was an honor watching you laides beat one hell of a great Baylor team in the 2nd round of the RBC Center this past Tuesday....GO PACK!!

This game also being broadcast on ESPNHD Glad to see we ended up in the earlier slot too, since the other Fresno game starts at 1130 (and on ESPN2, no HD on TWC).

And for those that dont know, Gillian Goring originally signed with UConn, but didnt qualify, and after 3 years at a junior college, UConn dropped her and she ended up at NC State....somewhat interesting subplot .

To be the best, you've got to beat the best...so I'm fine with the Road to a National Championship going through UCONN. We've beaten Carolina, who beat the Huskies earlier this year.

Khadijah Whittington is obviously going to be the focus of the UCONN defense, so it'll be incumbent on Gillian Gorring and Marquetta Dickens to step up. Dickens had a great game in the opening round, but was lackluster against Baylor, so she'll need to get back on her game.

Man, I feel bad for them. It sucks to lose that way.

I watched the game, though, and I'll say three things:

1. From the start of the game, it didn't seem like Duke's head was in it...I felt like they looked past Rutgers because of the thrashing they had given them (Rutgers) earlier this season.

2. Rutgers watched the video from our win over them in the ACC tournament and executed NC State's game plan to perfection. No surprise it yielded the same results.

3. I can't decide whether or not that was the best officiated game I've ever seen or the worst. The refs barely blew their whistles and there was no shortage of physical play.

That said....

Gail Goestenkors is a quality and classy coach, who produces talented, classy players. She's been über-supportive of Coach Yow and I hope she gets her shot at a national title one day. I don't carry my contempt for the Duke men over to their women's program.

But, unless Duke ponies up a lot of money and promises to make a more concerted effort to promote women's basketball in Durham, I believe that we've just seen Gail Goestenkors' last game as the coach of the Lady Devils.
