carry on!
yeah, it is the most gorgeous mid-engined supercar i would say.
but, they have to come out with a more powerful version if they want to compete with the some of the established names like porsche and ferrari.
however, they can't, because that's the gallardo's engine in there, detuned to 420 hp for the R8 (in the gallardo, it makes 500-520 hp).
so they can't make it more powerful because they are both owned by VW. (they want to maintain the heirarchy). 3/23/2007 1:38:22 PM |

Yeah thats Audi's 4.2 liter V8 in there. In the future however there will probably be a V10 version. Thats what the salesman told me when I asked him (of course I don't trust salesmen).
And while the car's been "released" for a while its still not for sale in the US. I'm basing that off the fact that Audi (as of last week) hasn't set an MSRP.

sorry got confused...
meant to say the car is based on the gallardo chassis, and is in a way the younger sibling of the gallardo.
it is the S6 (435 hp) and the S8 (450 hp) which have the detuned gallardo engine in them. that's why i got mixed up.
(the RS6 hasn't even been out yet for the current gen... if they make it, it will surely have 500+ hp)
^ so, considering the S6 and the S8 have the V10, there definitely will be an RS8, which will have the V10, making just a shade under what the gallardo is making at that time. just a matter of time!
absolutely gorgeous pics here suitable for wallpapers:

yup exactly as i said:
which will have the V10, making just a shade under what the gallardo is making at that time
hp goes up regularly, and by the time the RS8 comes out, say 1-2 years, the gallardo would probably have hit 550 hp by then, from the current 520 hp (which was already upped from the 500 hp within a couple of years of introduction).
and so the RS8 will have 20-30 hp lower than the lambo's at that time. 3/23/2007 6:31:21 PM |

Nope. MSRP of the GT3 is around $105-110k. Regarding the Carrera S, sure any idiot can option it to over the price of a GT3. Everyone knows that Porsche options are fucking ridiculously expensive.3/31/2007 9:09:20 AM |

ok it says that it will have V10, detuned to around 500 hp. now as we have discussed, we know that's because the gallardo has to stay big brother.
but it is completely ridiculous to me that the RS6, a SEDAN, will have more power than the RS8, a dedicated mid-engine 2-seat sports car.

Spied: 2009 Audi R8 V10 burns to a crisp
literally a crisp!!!
Quote : | "Based on the Lamborghini Gallardo, there's no question the Audi R8 is about as close to an Italian supercar as any German vehicle can get. Unfortunately, it seems Audi's V10 R8 prototype has inherited a less-than-desirable trait known to Italian supercars — catastrophic engine fires.
While the base R8 has a good old-fashioned German V8, a more powerful version under development features a Lamborghini V10 powerplant. Since Gallardos are generally not noted for engine fires, we don't think prospective R8 V10 owners will have anything to worry about, once engineers work out all the bugs.
The test driver was not hurt. See gallery below. " |

Audi to make new R4 to compete with Porsche Boxter?
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/04/26/audi-to-make-new-r4-to-compete-with-porsche-boxter/
Quote : | "The Audi brand is in full-blown growth mode right now, with newer products like the Q7 and A3 soon to be joined by the A5 and R8, and Audi promises that 22 new products in total are on the way. Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated product of all is the forthcoming R8, which has garnered lots of attention from news media and enthusiasts alike. Since Audi's supercar has been well-received, why not add a smaller Boxster-fighter to keep the good vibes going?
We've already told you about speculation that Audi was cooking up an R4 for 2009 or 2010, and now South Africa's topCar magazine is giving us more gas for the flame. We like Audi's 2.0L FSI turbo four, but at 270 hp, powering a 2,500-2800lb car, we'd like it even more. topCar reports that an all-new platform is being designed for the R4, with a steel spaceframe and plastic and aluminum body panels. Of course, a more sporty RS4 is rumored to be on the way as well, which could be powered by a 2.5L inline five with 350 hp.
It seems like everything under the sun is scheduled to appear in 2009 and 2010, and if even half of it comes to fruition, we'll be some busy bloggers. We hope the R4 is among the projects that makes the cut." |

^I seriously doubt the r4 has any potential. At best it will sell for s5 money and have tt power. It can't be built on any shared platform, and would likely be built in numbers too small for the price for VW to manage. Plus, Porsche keeps sinking their teeth into VW and is not happy with the brand overlap. I expect the rumors about a lower-aspiration-level second attempt at a phaeton to dissolve, and all these peripheral sports cars to disappear. The whole Eco-racer thing from a while back is toast too. Way too specialized and unable to share parts nor sell at profitable volumes for the initial cost. 4/29/2007 10:37:23 PM |

^ Agreed.
OK, now read this:
New Audi RS6 to have 571 HP (official)
738 lb-ft (unofficial)
Quote : | "Audi’s new RS6 will blow away the competition when it hits the street with a supercar rivaling 571hp output derived from its twin-turbo V10 engine. Vehicle registration details from an inside source reveal specific information about the new Audi model including engine capacity and specific outputs.
The last three numbers of vehicle chassis codes for the new RS6, ‘Audi AG 4F 7967 21 AAJ N31 N30 579 426 5002’ reveal that the car will have 579ps (metric horsepower rating), which is roughly equivalent to 571hp. The second last number describes the rating in kilowatts, in this case 426kw, and the last number is the engine capacity, 5002cc.
Handling all this power will be a six-speed ZF automatic transmission and quattro AWD that will also have to deal with all 1,000Nm of torque. Powerful carbon-ceramic brakes will be available as an option as well as a possible DSG transmission, reports Auto Motor and Sport.
Following the release of the regular sedan and Avant models of the RS6, Audi is expected to launch a ‘Plus’ version with even more power. Current estimates are around the 620 to 635hp. Beyond this, the same twin-turbo powerplant will make its way into a high-performance RS version of the R8 super-sports car. " |

LOOKS LIKE AN OLD SCHOOL COUPE, THE WAY MB, BENTLEY, CADILLAC COUPES USED TO LOOK.
FREAKING BEAUTIFUL AND UNDERSTATED!!!
If I had the money, I would buy this in a heartbeat over any MB or Bentley coupe!!!
Too bad it is not a planned Audi A8 coupe, but a test mule for an upcoming VW Phaeton Coupe with a folding hardtop that's gonna compete with the MB SL-Class
Quote : | "With the decision made to develop an all new generation Phaeton, Volkswagen is also expanding the Phaeton line-up. A convertible with folding hard-top will go on the market and compete directly against the Mercedes SL-Class.
Rumors about the next generation Phaeton are going in two different directions. Some sources say a shared platform with Porsche's Panamera will be utilized, while others say it will be based on the new Audi platform that will be used for the new A6 and A8.
The Phaeton hasn’t been the big success that VW expected, but with the next generation and its expansion by adding a Phaeton Coupe Convertible as well as a rumored 4-door Coupe (i.e. Mercedes CLS) to the model range, the car maker is hoping for more success. With the Mercedes SL-Class selling very well, VW is aiming to tap into this market and persuade some of those buyers to make the Phaeton line-up finally profitable. " |
