Do you honestly expect him to say "Im out of here to make millions of dollars, thanks for the scholarship." Of course he's going to say he's returning until he signs with an agent, and when that happens, ESPN will report it within a few hours, shouldn't be more than a week or two with Wright.3/26/2007 12:19:19 PM |

It's just unfounded rumors I'm sure. Lawson said in the Fayetteville Observer that he will be back and is worried that some of his teammates (wright) might not be. Getting caught up in the rumor game is pointless, because 99% of the time it's just wishful thinking..
If we listened to people on Packpride we'd be wondering how Rick Barnes will do entering his second year as coach..

Thats what some of the older guys at work have been saying who were NCSU students during the V years. UNC seems to always find a loophole whenever they get in trouble (like kentucky and the rest of the large fanbase schools that make the NCAA tons of $$)
Its a journalism / media conspiracy maaaaaan

Same with tOSU and USC in football, plain as day that Clarrett received gifts, and lots of them, and with Troy Smith as well. And Reggie Bush's family got caught not only with their hand in the cooky jar, but also eating the cooky.....and not one thing will happen. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA was trying to shut this former marketing agent of Bush up with action.
In all honesty, Lawson will likley come back, I don't think he's a lottery pick. But if he breaks out at the workouts and is told he's a lottery pick, he will go, but I'm not counting on it. 3/26/2007 1:56:59 PM |

^^ I agree. If they lose Wright then they have lost their best player. If they lose Lawson, then they have lost their most valuable player (their offense is way more potent and their pts off turnovers through him are really scary). They both have been reported by many sources to have already stopped attending class, so we may just see them both go. Either way, we will matchup much better against them next year and the talent/depth gradient wont be such an issue.
I think even we NCSU fans (except for all you holes lurking undercover around here) can agree that Handjob and Ellington dont have the minerals to go pro this year. If anyone thinks that Hahnsborgio or Ellington are going to leave, then Id love to hear why. 3/26/2007 2:58:27 PM |

If they have stopped attending classes then isn't it possible that UNC will face sanctions for not fulfilling academic standings. I only think this because of all the talk about how Durant has promised Texas to complete his courses regardless of whether he leaves or not so Texas won't get in trouble. 3/26/2007 4:05:09 PM |

Lmao where is this ellington talk coming from? he's a decent college player. maybe slightly below average acc starter he has no chance of making the nba until he improves drassticly.
Wright should be a lock to be gone but from everything he's said it seems like he may be staying. I guess its a tossup.
Lawson will def be a lotto pick someday but at his heght and perimeter scoring ability theres no way he would be a high pick this season. He also said he's 100% coming back he doesn't even have the opton to make a decision
Hansbrough could leave now and go late first round or 2nd round and that probably won't change in the next 2 years unless he develops an incredible midrnage game or ballhandling. His dad is rich and wants him to finish up before leaving and he knows he has the chance to go down as one of the best ever. I think he's a four year guy. 3/26/2007 4:18:31 PM |

Plenty of players say one thing and do another. Remember Sean May's promise to stay another year?
Lawson will go if he's picked in the top 15-20 - which may or may not be the case. I've seen some draft projections with him in the lottery.
Wright would have gone pro out of HS, he's not staying. If you look at what Roy said at the post game conference, you'd pick up on the fact that Roy basically knows he's going to leave.
Hansboro is fucked - his stock keeps going down as he gets exposed for the undersized center that he is. Taking 11 million foul shots but having no mid-range jumper in college = not a lottery pick. His game needs to pick up for him to move up from the late first round. 3/26/2007 4:54:10 PM |

That's why I said it was just odd. He wasn't asked about it....this wasn't a press conference.... this is just what he yelled to the crowd. That is odd. I know he hasn't been woo'ed by agents fully yet and that could all change.... but as I said, it just seems odd for him to willingly make that comment out of nowhere.
I still think he'll go, just kind of interesting...that was the entire point of my post.3/26/2007 5:08:55 PM |

It's not odd at all. Kids are impulsive and often times they say what people want them to hear. Sean May was telling everybody that he was coming back after they won the title and then 2 weeks later he declared. 3/26/2007 5:23:29 PM |

I know I know... He's not staying.... but for the most part these guys said this in press conferences when asked (Which is expected).
I just found it odd that he'd openly yell that to a crowd.
Forget it. I realize it means nothing. I'm in no way arguing that he meant anything by it, really

i wasn't arguing with you at all (i actually missed your comment about what he yelled).
i find it VERY hard to believe that when the dust settles and the sting from losing is gone, that all of unc's players will return. i guess you never know and roy seems to have everybody on the same page.
i still think wright and lawson will go... 3/26/2007 5:44:46 PM |

Well Julian Wright of Kansas was a projected top 5 pick and he declared he is staying so who knows what Brandon Wright will do.
The way he acted after the game and the way he acted in games is much like Greg Oden. Both of them look like they feel they are wasting time in the college game and are ready to get paid.
I wouldn't read much into the not attending classes with the ACC tourney and the NCAA tourney and Spring Break, those could be a reasons why they would have missed classes for a month and likely had to do a large amount of work before the leave of absence, had online stuff, or have to play catch-up.
Hansborough is a lock to stay pretty much. But if Lawson leaves, which I don't expect him to, that will be a big boost for us. They have no incoming freshmen and if they could lose 3-4 players that would be even better and put them in a position where they don't have that deep bench like they did this year. 3/26/2007 5:48:00 PM |

I remember having this same discussion about Michael Bell. Then again, more often than not, these guys really are good enough (at least potential-wise) to make the leap. We'll be able to tell by mid-season probably3/26/2007 9:09:13 PM |

Handsdouch has NBA size for a pf. And he runs the floor better than most guys his size. He needs a jumpshot from 15+ feet which he doesn't have now. But a lot of bigs develop a jumpshot in the pros. He does have a lot of potential. He has a nose for the ball (and elbows) and can score against guys bigger than him.
Most on this board will disagree with me but if he goes this year, I can see him going in the 1st round. 3/26/2007 9:31:41 PM |

Hickson is a top 20 player, you only see 1 and done from the top 5 or so usually, unless something happens that raises their draft stock like crazy (Tyrese Thomas growing like 2 feet). Plus he is supposedly pretty raw still.
I expect to get 2-3 years out of Hickson. 3/27/2007 8:18:01 AM |
