Will we still have that since our dear leader Chuck Amato is gone now? Regardless of what you guys may think, we did own FSU year after year under his great leadership. I can only imagine will this counter us in the upcoming years. Having such a wonderful defensive mind on the FSU sideline could create problems for us in the conference.

Another question I was pondering, will our defensive have that same saavy and aggression? Critics can jump all over Amato's offensive decisions, but the man was a defensive genius. Fact.

Well at least Chuck wasn't the only coach at State to beat FSU.

Yeah, I think O'cain managed to victor once against them. Correct me if I erred. But he did have Torry "Big Game" Holt at his disposal.

Who the hell is Chuch Amato and stop saying victor. It is extremely gay.

^ and yes we did beat them under OCain in 98. Torry had a punt return and receiving TD. The year before in 97, he had 5 TDs. I was at both games and he was easily the best player on the field both times.

only reason we had so much success vs. fsu was because of chuck's intimate knowledge of the fsu program and the bowdens. our defense won't be as good, but our offense should dramatically improve. the o-line especially is going to be awesome.

I kind of find it entertaining when Earl makes a thread, it usually is full of grammar a 6 year old wouldn't dare use, and sports points that make absolutely no sense to anyone but himself and reveal that he just might be 10 years old. But I'll go ahead and bite:

Quote :
"our dear leader Chuck Amato"

Actually he was your dear leader, many players that have moved on have stated Amato was more about being players friend than being an actual coach and assisstant coaches have alluded to the fact that they were always on differnet pages.

Quote :
"Having such a wonderful defensive mind on the FSU sideline could create problems for us in the conference"

You ever heard of Mickey Andrews...of course you haven't

Quote :
"I can only imagine will this counter us in the upcoming years."

I just like this statement/question because you don't really know which one it is

Quote :
"but the man was a defensive genius. Fact."

Um, our D got marched on this season. FACT . I realize you base one season of good D and characterize the man as a great defensive coach (sort of like you did with the basketball win over UNC), but the fact of the matter is that he was a great recruitor and an average defensive coach.

I will trade more consistent winning overall than beating FSU 57% of the time. Last year's win over FSU was awesome, but the season as a whole sucked.

Hopefully TOB will give us that consistency that we lacked with Chuck. Best of luck to him, he has been and will continue to be a fantastic Asst. Coach, but he wasn't head coach material in the ACC.

I just want to not have to hold my breath on every pass over 8 yards. Is that to much to ask Tom? I dont think so. I hope he works a little of that BC offensive magic from last year.

Ok, the point that O'Cain managed to win against FSU had nothing to do with his coaching ability it was just cuz Holt was the man. I was elated when O'Cain got the boot! I was a huge Chuck fan but understand the reason he is gone even though I wanted one more year. I just hope that this season brings better football for NCSU!!! Is the season here yet??? Hurry up plz after the Final Four is gone I am lost until football season. I like hockey but I would rather watch football or basketball

Personally, I would rather beat both FSU and UNC but if I had to pick one I would pick the win over FSU because traditionally they are more of a powerhouse and usually view as a better win. On the same note a loss to UNC looks worse in my opinion but it is a key rival.

[Edited on March 28, 2007 at 9:14 PM. Reason : Also when O'cain got that win over FSU I believe Weinke threw 7 picks that night!]

I dunno if O'Cain went after Holt but Chuck went after Rivers! I am not old enough to know if O'Cain went after Holt...LOL but I am old enough to know that Chuck went after Rivers. I just wish he could of found a QB with at least half of Phil's talent to replace him (was neither a Davis or Stone fan).

^^ ocain recruited phil first. one of the main reasons we got phil was because we recruited him as a qb not a te...and when ocain got fired, the first trip chuck made was to phil's house in bama

^Um no fuckface. We recruited Philip as a QB and that is the reason we got him thanks to O'Cain.

That's the proof that you don't know your schools history. Riv riv's skill were so questionable during his recruitment, they said he would play TE. That is if all failed. So he was looked at in the TE position. True story.

Philip Rivers was recruited as a QB at NC State. we were not the only school to recruit him as a QB.

if you want to get picky... Rivers was a Joe Pate recruit. he was the one that recruited Rivers and kept him on board during the coaching change. Amato's trip to Athens was basically just a formality... at that point he would have been at NC State regardless of who the coach was.

p riv was recruited as a TE, but not at nc state. we went at him to play qb, and that's why we got him, everyone else wanted to turn him into a tight end. that's my understanding on the matter anyway.

Quote :
"After O’Cain was let go, Wolfpack assistant Joe Pate remained at the school and continued to recruit Rivers as several bigger schools from the Southeastern Conference came calling.

“The primary competition for Philip was Georgia,” says Pate, who is now the Assistant Athletics Director for Football Operations. “They recruited Philip really hard until they signed an in-state quarterback, David Green, who was also a coach’s son. He started for them for four years. David Cutcliffe was the head coach at Ole Miss … and he recruited Philip really hard. That would have been really interesting because he and Eli Manning would have been freshmen together that year.

“Auburn, despite what they say now, recruited Philip as a quarterback. That might have been with the thought that if things didn’t work out, he could play something else [like tight end]. Louisville recruited him hard as a quarterback. Those were the primary contenders. Alabama did not recruit him because Brody Croyle was a junior, and they told him and his dad that year that they wouldn’t take a quarterback and they didn’t.”"

FSU should be A LOT better with their reloaded offensive staff next year. getting rid of jeff bowden is good. i think we benefited from FSU having a terrible offensive staff.

I would rather see us win 9 games and beat unc-ch and be competitive in our losses

Earl, you are an absolute fool of epic proportions. That's the whole reason Rivers came to NC State, because he knew he could play QB here. Otherwise, he would have gone to Auburn or FSU, both teams had offered him a TE spot. Why would a kid choose NC State over Auburn if they were offered the same position when he was from the state of Alabama? I'm still not buying the fact that Auburn says they recruited him as a QB. If they say this it was just to get him on the team and then move him to TE. You know nothing about sports and run your mouth to the point where it's not only incorrect, it's embarassing to yourself, now go predict the underdog to win in the next 20 games and brag about the one you got right. And it is correct that Joe Pate was the one who got Rivers, it's funny that people think Amato did anything besides go down there and smooth some simple things over. Then again Earl, you have no idea who Joe Pate is.

Realistically, NO we will not continue to "dominate" FSU (not that we ever really did, as quoted 57% winning). However, I would much rather have a winning season and beat the NC teams than 4 FSU wins every 7 years.

As of right now, TOB for president!
