Can't go to the website to see for yourself? $25/month is nice if you don't subscribe to phone or cable (like my broke self) 4/1/2007 12:58:14 AM |
Noen All American 31346 Posts user info edit post |
^its only 25 bucks a month WITH a two year contract, for the lowest service tier. and then only for the first three months, then it shoots up to 34.95 a month
Road runner is $29.95 a month for the first 6 months with a 50 dollar rebate, it's 5 times faster downstream, and you have NO contract. You can call and cancel after 6 months and sign up again for 29.95. 4/1/2007 1:47:11 AM |

I have yet to hear of a good alternative that works as reliability and as fast as RR. If you find one, please post it. Otherwise, you can spend 2 hours a week with a sign on Hillsborough saying "please help me pay for high speed!" if you need the $$$. There are ways of saving money and there are ways of wasting time trying to save money. This falls in the second category. 4/1/2007 10:02:02 AM |

I thought road runner was 30 bucks ON TOP of existing cable fees? Not everybody wants to pay for cable. otherwise rr is close to 50 bucks a month. 4/2/2007 11:58:18 PM |

with my basic cable its 47 a month for RR (not including the cost of the cable tv) and thats just fucking ridiculous

RR is $34.95 a month without cable. We've had it for uh... almost 2 years at that price. No deal or anything.
If you can't afford $34.95 a month you need to get your ass a better job or stop buying so much cigs/beer/drugs 4/3/2007 8:40:31 AM |

yeah seriously
RR regular is definitely like $44.95/month without cable and under no promotion...usually

I've yet to pay more than 29.95 a month for RR when I've paid the interweb bills. That's been at least 3 years.

^^I had the 6 month deal going on. If you call and cancel, do you have to turn in the modem, wait for them to hook it up again, etc? Or can you call, cancel, and immediately call back and get it turned back on? 4/3/2007 8:45:43 PM |

Not the best option, but cheap if you have Cingular. Get the MediaMax 200 bundle (unlimited data) for your phone ($20 / month) and tether it to your computer via USB. Wireless internet everywhere you can get a signal. If you get a 3G phone and hang around Raleigh most of the time, the speeds won't be that bad. 4/3/2007 11:13:59 PM |

How quick is the turnaround if we cancel RR and put in under another name. I can't stand forking over $54 (taxe$) for fucking RR every month.
I'm considering going with RRlite as well. Anyone use this, and how much slower is it for "normal" stuff (no big downloads, just surfing around) 4/4/2007 6:43:34 PM |
SouthPaW12 All American 10141 Posts user info edit post |
^ Shouldn't notice a hit for normal web browsing. After all, the upload from normal to RRLite only drops from 384kbps to 256kbps. 4/4/2007 8:16:39 PM |

Sweet. We're getting hitched next weekend and will be gone for about a week. If nothing else, I can just upgrade back to roadrunner if it's too slow. 4/4/2007 9:43:45 PM |
mysteryegg Veteran 163 Posts user info edit post |
I'm surprised nobody brought this up... For $20/month, many wireless providers have an "Unlimited Data" plan. So if you live in a 3G service area, you can get better speed than RR Lite just by using your phone as a bluetooth or USB-connected modem. Of course, if your phone doesn't support 3G, it'll be more like dial-up. 5/6/2007 2:26:32 PM |
Grandmaster All American 10829 Posts user info edit post |
^and once your cell provider sees you actually abusing the pseudo-unlimited plan they will switch you to all data for about 99 a month.
Email/Aim/casual browsing sure. You can't use it as your primary connection without getting flagged.

^ Yeah, it's that nasty fine print that'll get you. They reserve the right to fuck you over if you're actually using their plans in an unintended way like that. 5/6/2007 2:32:12 PM |

^I ended up canceling Business Class RR $89/month and going with Premium RR at my parents house. Now they only pay $60/month and get a faster speed. The benefit of Business Class is the separate tech support among a few added bonuses that the average small business will never use. 5/7/2007 11:26:34 PM |
