what are you mostly looking to do there? drink, drink, drink? actually get educated about beers, eg, their origins, processes for making them... for me, i want to get hammered (well like 3/4 hammered) but i really would like to learn about beers. hey if you have a micro degree, knowing a lot about beer and how they are made might land you a job as a brewmaster or something one day. 4/2/2007 1:08:47 PM |

maybe you should give us some details of when/where this is going to happen? or at least a website? 4/2/2007 1:10:22 PM |

it happens twice a year - once in raleigh, and once in durham (in oct). on 4/28 the relaigh gathering will be held at moore square (like 8-9 blocks from shaw). there will be over 300 beers there. this even is being hosted by all about beer which is a an international beer magazine that is based in durham, and its website is http://www.allaboutbeer.com . 4/2/2007 1:13:03 PM |

my main goal is to try things that i have not tried. this is going be hard because i have tried to many different things (400-500+). looking for rare or hard to find beers not avaiable regualrly in the triangle.
well after looking at the 2007 brewers list i am most excited about:
1. jolly pumpkin - mmmmmmmm barrel aged artesian ales 2. bells - please come bearing expidition stout 3. dogfish head - please bring red and white and/or black and blue 4. boon and cantillion-lambic ftw
very disappointed that kuhnhenn is not on the list.
its gonna be a long day. 12-4 beerfest. 645 hank jr and skynyrd.
imo, beerfest is is nto the best place to learn about beer. because mostly of the volenteers know nothing about the beers they are dispensing! some times the brewers or someone from the brewery will be there but its hard to talk to them bc everyone wants to.
beerfest is a great place to learn what beers/styles of beers you like. if you want to learn about beer and brewing take up homebrewing if you dont already do it. 4/2/2007 9:23:17 PM |

great dane downtown is a good place to start
the great taste of the midwest is a beer festival in august at olin park on john nolen drive...im not exactly sure what historical claim it has but i think its the oldest, or something
no doubt its the best out there, when you combine the quality of beer there and the setting of the festival...tickets sell out very very fast on 5/5. check it out 4/2/2007 10:30:47 PM |

I'll be there, mainly to sample new beers I haven't tried. 270 different brews, and getting larger everyday.
Quote : | " and dear dogfishhead....bring the 120 again please please please " |
Did they ever bring it here? The guy I talked to at the DFH booth last fall said they can't bring it due to the alcohol cap.

A degree in micro hardly has any effect at all in a person's ability to brew great beer.4/3/2007 1:28:20 AM |

the people who go and swish around the beers, wash out their glasses, and stand their discussing the "rich fruity flavor" are fucking homos.

not sure what's going to happen with this one
Couldn't decide if i was gonna go in the evening or afternoon, so I kept putting it off. Then I was offered a job there, so I put it off even more. Then the job fell through today, with the possibility of a free pass anyway. Then I started thinking about volunteering.
I'll probably pick up a ticket tomorrow, most likely for the evening, and just go with the flow.

Huh? Nobody is going to be concerned with what you're doing. Just go and try some new beer.

there will be so many people there-- no one is going to give a damn what you're doing (unless you're being an ass and holding up the line... thus inhibiting their consumption/tasting of as many beers as possible)
Honestly, this event is awesome. If you've never been, it will single handedly change your opinion of beer. I volunteered at the one in Durham just for the hell of it (I didn't even drink beer, or much at all really)... and it completely changed the way I view beer. If you don't leave with a greater appreciation of good beer, you deserve to consume rice beer 4/5/2007 8:20:59 AM |
