I didn't realize Heath had been there for six years
I hope Altman likes it at Creighton - his credibility in future hires/opportunities/etc takes a hit here, even if not a huge one
I guess if he's going to make a leap he wants it to be to a top-tier program, even though Arkansas is a pretty solid step up imo 4/3/2007 8:05:25 PM |

Our saga last year has nothing on Arkansas.
I've been reading their boards, they supposedly had a deal with Gillespie (talk about drama, Ark and Gillespie had everything worked out until Tubby left UK, supposedly) and Calipari played them like a fiddle, much like he did to us last year.
Most of their fans didn't even like the idea of Altman, now they're pissed that they've been turned down for the likes of Creighton. 4/3/2007 8:13:26 PM |

I have a hard time believing Gillispie would leave A&M for freakin Arkansas.
Neither is a 'better' job than the other, and Gillispie is a Texas man with a much better program at A&M. 4/4/2007 7:44:49 AM |

Arkansas won the 1994 National Championship, and has been to 6 Final Fours 1941, 1945, 1978, 1990, 1994, 1995. They play at a great facility in Bud Walton Arena (capacity 19,200) and have plenty of basketball history in the past.
Texas A&M on the other hand hadn't done shit until Billy Gillispie got there. They have only like 7 NCAA tournament appearances. They play in Reed Arena (12,500) which is newer than Bud Walton Arena, but not really any nicer. It's actually kind of an oddly designed building.
Arkansas has more prestige over TAMU, but TAMU has a great coach that is making some serious waves. To say that TAMU is a better program overall though is a bit of a fallacy. Now I agree that TAMU is in a better position to do well in the future right now though, but Arkansas, provided they find themselves a decent coach and don't go off and fire him after two straight successful years, will be a consistent top 30 program year in and year out. Their facilities and fan support should continue to attract the best local recruits and a good national one every now and then.4/4/2007 7:11:59 PM |

the biggest problem arkansas has right now is that Memphis is good again 4/4/2007 7:41:33 PM |

^^ I remember the National Championship (40 minutes of hell, Corliss Williamson,etc)... but I honestly had no idea they had so many Final Fours.
If it came down to money, which do you think could pay him more? I'd imagine aTm has some deep pockets.
Still, you're in freakin Arkansas. Give me aTm any day (This, coming from a closet Aggie that made one of the #1 things to do in his life: see an aTm vs Texas game at Kyle Field)

Maybe they were going to drop the AR to make him believe he was still at Kansas.4/5/2007 12:10:04 AM |

I guess it's time they move down the list to their next three guys: Billy Donovan, Roy Williams, and Coach K. 4/5/2007 2:55:31 AM |

i've found Omaha to be a great town. it IS a good spot for a family though so I'm sure that was a big reason.
buuuut I think it ultimately had to be the Pig Sooey chant. they showed him on the news the other night in Fayetteville making the annoucement, then they had everyone on stage and in the crowd do it...WOW was it painful to sit through, I was embarrassed just watching it on tv. he kept expecting it to stop and they kept going...you could see in his eyes "How long does this go on?? MY GOD what have I done..." 4/5/2007 10:01:20 PM |
