Anyword if it will work on the new TW software due out this year? Last I knew they were in beta testing in Nebraska somewhere and the Mayor of the town was pissed at how bad it was. 4/3/2007 9:18:57 PM |

Yeah the new software has been talked about on AVSforum, no one likes it.
So does this only give you more space, or are you able to connect the drive to your computer and copy in order to burn a DVD perhaps? 4/4/2007 12:17:06 AM |

^I'm not looking forward to it. Last thing I saw on AVS about TWC Navigator was that the Raleigh area is supposed to be getting it by the end of Q1, so I guess we're due.
I also saw several posts on AVS about ESPN2HD appearing in guides around the area, so maybe ENDContra's post there will bring the luck to Raleigh. 4/4/2007 1:28:05 AM |

Dvr is too easy right now.

No it will not let you transfer stuff to pc the way th dvr formats the drive is funky.. for some reason i don't think linux or mac can handle it either but i forgot what it is. not only that you can't really control which drive things get saved to (always the one with more space)
but it will allow me to bring my movies with me to other scientific atlanta 8300hd dvrs.4/4/2007 8:18:07 AM |

Yeah thats what I thought...I think I had heard it was the drive used some weird file system. Sounds like a great idea at first, but in order to keep those movies youre pretty much stuck with that SA8300 and TWC, unless there is another DVR/service provider that is compatible.

I'd modify it if our cable reception/service didn't suck. So many of my recordings are unwatchable that I wouldn't want to keep very many anyways. 4/4/2007 11:37:38 AM |

Yeah I imagine. You probably also live in a newer house or apartment. I live in a fairly old place and TWC refuses to run better cabling. Glad I only have about a month or two before I get Direct TV and DSL. I'd rather deal with occasional loss of TV from extremely severe thunder storms than constant pixelation and HD sound cutting out. I know most people don't have it nearly that bad though, and I wish I could stick with cable because it's SLIGHTLY cheaper if I get them to keep resigning me up for the sales. 4/4/2007 11:42:08 AM |

Just looking at that list of features, I don't see how it improves over Passport. I am sure if I had the SARA software I would be excited about this, but right now... not so much. 4/4/2007 12:17:25 PM |

I have a mythtv box. It is easy to set up and you dont need a very fast cpu to run it. I used http://www.mysettopbox.tv . Check it out if you want an alternative to cable company provided dvr's. 4/4/2007 9:18:26 PM |
