Okay, couple of questions, do you think it would be a fun weekend? I'm trying to plan a surprise for my friend for his birthday, and thought getting all our close friends together and going to busch gardens for the weekend would be fun for his 21st. Have you been while you were 21? was it fun? I know we'll have fun during the day, but what about at night? any suggestions?
any suggestions on where to stay?
tickets are 54 something a day I think, I don't think we'll be getting to the 15 person 'group discount' size, but are there places that sell discounted tickets or coupons?
It'll be the 2nd week of may, do you think we should go to the water park there?
is this a good idea? lol I know that sounds dumb, but would you guys want this for your 21st? 4/4/2007 11:24:35 AM |

They have beer at Busch Gardens. It's Busch Gardens
Yes that would be awesome fun. I wish my friends had thought to do something that cool for my 21st.
You can find a cheap hotel on http://www.kayak.com. There's some decent ones around Colonial Williamsburg. There's also some decent bars around William and Mary for all your drinking needs. Or you can just stop at the K-Mart down the street and have a hotel party 4/4/2007 11:30:11 AM |

why would you think he wasn't familiar with alcohol? of course he drinks already, but I just didnt know if it was a lame idea, or if most people would just want to go bar hopping in town.
thanks wolfpackgrrr I'm gonna check out that kayak site.
I wonder if any of the hotels do discount tickets when you book a room through them? 4/4/2007 11:33:03 AM |

before you decide on just Busch Gardens, check out Kings Dominion, its not too far away from BG and I've always had more fun at Kings Dominion 4/4/2007 11:34:09 AM |

that might be the worst time ever to be in that area. it will be the 400th anniversary of jamestown may 14. 4/4/2007 11:34:18 AM |

Yes they have beer at Busch Gardens but they no longer give the free beer tour any more. The only place you can get beer is in Octoberfest area. Its a nice place to go and since Virginia schools are not out yet the lines will not be long. Water Country USA is okay I wouldn't recomend going there unless you just like the water parks. 4/4/2007 11:44:08 AM |

Sounds pricey... don't know if that is a concern. On top of the $54 tickets you'll be shelling out alot for beer. 4/4/2007 11:44:38 AM |
meganey2004 Veteran 498 Posts user info edit post |
boooooooooooooo@400th anniversary that weekend. That might make us decide on Kings Dominion instead, I've never been there and I don't think he has either.
I realize the price issue, and have discussed that w/ some friends, but we'd be spending just about as much doing anything around here if they all came here.
I still think the tour of the plant would be cool, even if they don't give out free beer. I'm thinking NO on watercountry USA, maybe if we were staying longer.
Also, I haven't been to Busch Gardens since I was like 14, so what are the new fun rides?
Any other opinions on Kings Dominion?
sidenote: this is a stretch, but do you think most people will be at the jamestown thing on saturday, or do you think its going to swamp Busch Gardens as well? I'm wondering if it would make busch gardens maybe less busy? I thought people usually picked one place to spend the day at, then went to the other the next day? Just a thought.

^I agree, and water country is more fun when its really hot and the lines at busch gardens are really long...I would suggest going during the week if you go past april. As far as your friend having fun there at his age, I think he definitely can..ive been several times in the past few years and always liked it, but I went when I knew lines would be short. 4/4/2007 12:04:04 PM |

I think it's an awesome idea.
I've been to Kings Dominion before, I liked it, but I've never been to Busch Gardens, so I guess I have no opinion on which is better. 4/4/2007 1:00:01 PM |

kings dominion is awesome and big and about 20 miles north of richmond, but i think its a bit more expensive too. i prefer kings dominion for the rollercoasters and rides.4/4/2007 2:24:00 PM |

Their new roller coaster (see this thread http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=426037) opens the next weekend. That, combined with the Jamestown anniversary is a good reason to not go IMO.4/4/2007 2:44:45 PM |

Ouch, I might avoid Williamsburg that weekend if that Jamestowne thing is going on. I'm sure that's going to affect the crowds at Busch Gardens too.
They also serve alcohol in the Italy area.

Busch Gardens > KingsDominon
but you really should try to go when it is not crowded. We're going next weekend and missing the new roller coaster probably, but at least the lines won't be too bad. And they have a "Brewmaster's Room" in the Oktoberfest area where you can sample a few beers in different categories. No idea about the night life around town though, we're just going to play it by ear and try to find some bars when we get up there. 4/5/2007 9:55:42 AM |

Queen will be in W-Burg on May 3- coming a week early so she can then go to the Kentucky Derby. New ride at Busch Gardens opens May 25- so make it a late birthday present, although hotel rates will sky rocket come memorial day/tourist season 4/5/2007 4:34:20 PM |
tdwhitlo All American 1347 Posts user info edit post |
well Kings Dominion is 37.95 per person instead of 54, so theres a bit of money saving
theres a water park there also, and they are adding 3 new water rides this year
there are probably 10 roller coasters there worth riding - and the water rides are fun also
theres the extreme skyflyer which i rode when i was like 13, fun as hell
if youre worried about williamsburg being crazy, head to Kings Dominion - its never really full early in the season
and dont forget to ride the volcano!
