and nfl and nba players, for example, do something that 99.999999% of the world cant do...including the pga
along those same lines, F1 racing is more of a sport than NASCAR...takes quicker hand-eye...while in NASCAR you have 45 year olds out there racing
if you play a sport for 4 days (ie a golf tournament from thurs - sun)...and you dont run or jog for at least 1 second...its a sport...its just an inferior sport that you can literally play until you are 100 years old

there are a few people who can dunk, hit homeruns, run for miles
how many people do you remember that can dominate their sport year after year like Tiger?
I think its consensus across the country that Tiger has dominated his sport more than any other athlete in the past 5-10 years...
if you dont agree then make another reference...but its tremendous the records he has been able to beat in such a short time and what he has done to the sport of golf.
He is without doubt someone that wont come around for a long long time again...when you watch him its like you are watching a legend, like MJ in his prime.
I dont even see how you can argue against that. and they will continue to talk about him and rightfully so until he either stops dominating or someone better comes along. 4/7/2007 10:11:11 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148450 Posts user info edit post |
i dont disagree with anything you've said, and i think tiger's dominance in golf in the last 10 years or so is more impressive than any other player/athlete/sportsman in any other sport during that time...he has truly dominated the game of golf
my simple argument is that golf is not the most athletic sport...i dont see how anyone could argue that...doesnt take away from what tiger does...just saying its not as athletic as other things 4/7/2007 10:16:41 PM |

I agree Treetwista
its not an athletically dominating sport, its a finnesse sport and muscle memory/thought process game.
its certainly not one youre gonna be winded after...but it takes some skill sets that not alot of people have obviously with a mentality to execute those thoughts into action.
i agree with that aspect. 4/7/2007 11:33:47 PM |

^, ^^ it could happen. but we were just talking a few years ago about how dominant serena williams was and we see how far that got. of course federer seems like he might be more focused. the men's game is so volatile from year to year though. federer is a damn beast these days though. 4/8/2007 2:27:56 AM |

Federer has 10 majors Woods has 12 majors
I don't know why it's so hard to believe.
Tennis also gives players a shorter window to play than golf does, so it's expected of great golfers to have more major wins than tennis players. 4/8/2007 2:28:58 AM |

oooo i disagree, tennis is more difficult
you have an off day in tennis and it costs you the title
off day in golf, it costs you some strokes, that CAN be regained 4/8/2007 2:34:54 AM |

I used to hate Tiger, but after Phil choked on his own cock last year at the US Open, I quit hating on him cause there's no way in hell Tiger would ever lose that tournament. Tiger isnt dumb enough to hit driver where a 2 iron would win him the damn tournament or at worst put him in a playoff where he dominates a n00b the next day.
I'm pulling for Tiger in every damn tournament now. Fuck it. 4/8/2007 10:44:01 AM |

I have always pulled for Tiger. I appreciate [non steroid enhanced] sports greatness and we are in the middle of it with him and Federer. Like him or hate him you have to respect his game. I just like to see the way the field absolutely crumbles around him simply knowing he is lurking a few strokes back. People always say that doesn't happen and the field isn't that good but we all know that they are absolutely terrified of him.. 4/8/2007 11:15:57 AM |

the reason they talk about tiger all the time is because he gets ratings. that's it. the day people stop watching golf to see tiger is the day they stop talking about him so much. and that's what has been said by golf announcers (in one issue of golf digest). it is not my opinion
they have a camera crew dedicated to tiger who records every shot he ever makes because people want to see him. it's just for ratings.
