I just got a new laptop from HP (dv6000t) and I have a high pitch noise coming from around the center of the laptop...its def. an electrical noise, so not from the speakers. The laptop specs are as follows...has anyone had this problem? The noise is even more apparent when going off of battery power only.

- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
- Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo T7200 (2.0GHz/4MB L2Cache)
- 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
- 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
- HP Imprint Finish + Microphone
- 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
- LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
- Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2007

ive tried calling support, but they had me re-install the sound driver and some other things that i knew would not fix the problem...i am thinking about returning it for a new one...but if this problem is constant with these laptops, im just going to return. im trying to figure out if this is an HP problem, or if other core 2 duo laptops have the same problem.

it could be a loose capacitor on the mobo; they typically will emit a high pitch whine when not correctly mounted/installed.

I am not sure if its something with the Core 2's or just HP Core 2's. On my dv6000, the noise isn't as noticeable as it was when I first got it. I have to hold my ear right up to the keyboard to hear it now.

mine does that when running on battery sometimes. I don't think it is any big deal and it is definitely not something HP tech support is going to be able to help you with

it may be the touchpad (mouse)

go to a webpage where you can scroll down. use the "scroll" feature on the right side of the touchpad to scroll the page down. while you do this, listen to the whining...if it fades or goes away while you are scrolling on the touchpad, then it is the touchpad...

mine makes a very very very faint noise, but it may be the noise you are talking about

I don't know if HP has changed their business practices since my experience but I'll relate it anyway. You might want to be wary.

I bought an HP monitor. It completely blinked out after a few days of use (only a few hours of actual use). I call them up and they promised me they were sending a new one - just like you. They sent me an old refurbished monitor. I immediately felt riped off because I just paid the price of a new monitor and ended up with a used one. I guess that is the standard business practice of just about everywhere though.

The refurbished monitor, having previously been broken and later fixed, had problems of its own. The picture quality had a terrible pink hue to it and some of the RGB adjustment controls didn't work. I sent it back and got another refurbished monitor. The third monitor had a slight tint issue but I just decided to give up at that point. I was also on the hook for the phone bill for all those calls I had to make to straighten out the issue. I'll never buy HP again.

I'd try to return it to the store first and see what that gets you. Getting a new replacement beats getting a used, once broken replacement. Make sure you check the model they send you from top to bottom.

hackers have turned your computer into a bomb.

Luckily you sent it to HP in time.
