I'm thinking about getting one of these for extra storage space mostly for recorded TV (so it doesn't really have to be fast). Basically: 1 TB, USB 2.0 + Gigabit Ethernet interface. Yea or nay? My computer does not have any more physical space inside for another hard drive. It's got 3 internal drives (80 GB SATA, 200 GB ATA 133, 250 GB ATA 133). I was thinking about replacing the SATA drive with a bigger one, but why do that when I can get a terrabyte for $320?

my computer has 4 tuners and records probably 20 hours of TV a day. It comes and goes faster than I have time to go through it all. I can't stand when it deletes stuff I was gonna watch later.

there is not 20 hours of television a day that deserves to be watched, what the hell are you recording?

It's basically Discovery and History channel for most of the day. Yeah most of it isn't worth watching but some of it is. It's better to go through the recorded TV and pickk what you want to watch right then instead of going in the guide and picking what you might want to watch in hours, days, or weeks.

I've already seen every episode of most of the series I watch. And who gives a fuck what my TV watching/recording habits are? I just wanted to know if that's a good price for a hard drive.

yeah it is decent
i would personally buy two SATA2 500gb internal drives for $130 each if i wanted another TB of storage but if that's not an option, this isn't that bad.

i'm actually thinking about going the other direction.

my dvr didn't hold jack either now it has a 500gig e-sata drive its pretty good
limpy... i might need to talk to you about your setup sometime though

btw if you record hd content you'll need the gigabit cause usb 2 can't handle it
hell my e-sata gets a lil overwhelmed sometimes.
