We've heard it coming from miles and miles away... we just don't talk about it much. It's not like you can do anything about it. No matter how hard you work today, if they want to cut you, they will. That's just how the coporate world is.

^ They aren't "firing" 100k. They're "replacing" 100k. It's workforce size would likely remain pretty steady. It's not that far-fetched this day in age to be honest. 5/5/2007 9:58:30 AM |

With 355,766 employees worldwide, that would leave only 5,766 employees to run the rest of the company throughout the world.
That's pretty crazy! 5/5/2007 1:46:09 PM |
Charybdisjim All American 5486 Posts user info edit post |
^ IBM Global Services is most of that total then. That group had 190,000 people as of 2005 and every time IBM Global Services has absorbed a company or an IT division of a company they have added those employees to their numbers. It's freaking huge.

PETER The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy. It's just that I just don't care.
BOB PORTER Don't, don't care? PETER It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now, if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime. So where's the motivation? And here's another thing, Bob. I have eight different bosses right now!
BOB SLYDELL I beg your pardon?
PETER Eight bosses.
BOB SLYDELL Eight?
PETER Eight, bob. So that means when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my real motivation - is not to be hassled. That and the fear of losing my job, but y'know, Bob, it will only make someone work hard enough not to get fired. 5/8/2007 5:09:11 PM |
