to all who watch the news, im sure you will hear about a blue angels crash that took place today.

Well, just so you all know, they are some of the absolute best pilots in the military and the world. the flying they do is dangerous and there is no way around it. i have a feeling the wolf web groupies are going to start saying some bad things about this crash soon, and there is just no place at all for any crap like that.

Sorry to hear about the crash, I hadn't heard

I dont think tww'ers would be talking crap about them, though. Not in a serious way like you refer.

Having seen both thunderbirds and blue angels shows a couple times each, I personally think the tunderbirds take it in a landslide, but both are very impressive. All US military pilots are the best in the world-- I don't think you'll get any question with that statement either, regardless of stunt team status.

ps just remember the blue angels (et al.) serve so people like [some] tww'ers can talk their trash about the country that protects them and enables them to do so...

the crash took place over land, obviously since parts of the plane did in fact hit houses.

on a side note, you might not think people will stay stupid things about this, but the post concerning Hitler is a prime example of what i am referring to about the wolf web groupies being stupid.

Have you heard if the pilot ejected before the crash? I watched the news report earlier, but they didn't know the pilot's status at the time.

that is up for debate, they have the same job. the idea here is to basically pre-defend the blue angels from the upcoming onslaught that is the wolf web.

the squadron i just checked out of (VT-86) shares a hanger with the Blue Angels. VT-86 had a fatal crash about a year ago...been a bad year.

I live about a mile out the back gate of NAS Pensacola...the Blues fly low over my house all the time. You can watch them practice from my backyard.

my sisters bf was at the show. he said when it happened, the leader flew over the scene, and the explosion was enormous. it was right at the end of the show, and it defiantly ended the show.

they aren't building any more of those jets...the operational squadrons will all transition to the Super Hornet. It's not like they're gonna have to buy another Hornet to replace the one they just crashed. If it hadn't been crashed, my guess is that it would've ended up in a boneyard out in the desert in a year or two, anyway.

Remind me not to attend an airshow. I've seen enough RealTV and Maximum Exposure to know that it's generally a bad idea.

I'd be willing to venture that automobile use is far more common than air show displays. I'm not even talking about my own safety here. As a spectator, I cannot support these events. Your mere presence is encouraging pilots to risk their lives. What is this, Rome?

Dammit guys, way to take a sarcastic comment and try to make a serious argument out of it. I'm disappointed. Didn't you notice how I included such reputable news outlets as RealTV and Maximum Exposure (which will freeze frame any video, no matter how dramatic or tragic, to point out a "sweet mullet")?

i've never understood the apparent hard-ons and wetness that guys and chicks get from these things, the pilots, and aviation in general. not that it's not cool and all, but the almost fetish-like love for it... it's lost on me.

anyways, sorry he died. sucks but i guess thats the risk you take doin stuff like that.

flying is definitely a calculated risk.

if you have ever flown, not sit in a passenger flown, but actually controlled an aircraft, it would help in understanding the hard-on and wetness from aviation in general. it is a great feeling.

^^ i know exactly what you meant, and the answer is a lot. however, i'll bet money that jet would've been on its way to the boneyard in a couple of years, anyway. they won't spend any money to replace it, either...they don't even make that jet anymore.

i think the guy passed out....it was his first time doing it....apparently they dont use the protective vest or what not to help keep blood to the brain...they supposedly use there abs for that....got a feeling he passed out and crashed due to this. The say that dont use the vest because it could cause them to accidently hit the stick(when it inflates) and that would not be good with them flying so close....

yeah, they don't wear g-suits. it's possible that he g-loc'd...one of my friends did it the other day in a T-45 on a bombing run. could've been a bird strike. could've been a mechanical failure. could be that he just didn't see or misjudged the position or height of the trees.

it wasn't his first time performing with them...he'd been with the team since Sept '05, but yeah, he was one of the more junior team members.

FUCK... I just read a newspaper article on it.... sounds to me like he LOCed up, an observer said the jet looked totally in control all the way to the deck. That makes me think he had her nice a trimmed up when they were maneuvering and just forgot to Hick.. (or hook, depending on when you went through Swim-phys)

It also said that it was his first time as a demonstration pilot. (but he had been on the team for two years) So I could easily see him being all amped about flying in this show and then GLOCing b/c he's focused on what he's doing and not doing his AGSM.

I live down here in Savannah and I was just at a bar where I met a C-130 pilot who was flying in the area at the time of the crash. He said there were a shit load of birds in the area. The word down here is that he hit a bird right on the canopy which would of killed him instantly at the speed he was going.
