I have a 2006 Acura TSX with 13,000 miles on it...i contacted my local acura dealership to see how much an oil change is and the guy said that i dont need synthetic but it is preferred...just wanted to see what you guys thought...is it worth it? what are the time intervals between changes? how many people get synthetic oil on there tsx? didn't see any threads regarding this and the tsx thread is old...thanks 4/23/2007 2:54:20 PM |

if you want to know what tsx drivers put in their cars you would be better off going to a tsx forum - that said...most people that post in the forums are going to recommend synthetic 4/23/2007 3:06:58 PM |

yep, don't be cheap, go with synthetic. It ends up doesn't cost you more because the longer oil change interval. 4/23/2007 3:22:16 PM |

new cars like synthetic old cars tend not to unless they have new motors. 4/23/2007 3:29:59 PM |

synthetic is pricey, but going 6k (or more, depending on the oil) miles before doing it again it nice
I used in my '05 Grand Cherokee 'til about 20k, used regular the last time 'cause it was convienient 4/23/2007 4:22:35 PM |

I go in upwards of 5K with just regular oil, hell even Honda recommends it, on a 4cyl DD, I should hope with synthetic that people would get more than 6K!
I dont get quite that much on the 6cyl that is not as much of a daily driver and gets hammered on a bit more

the Mobil 1 EP is money. I used it on my mom's lexus, and she only drives like 7k/year. 2 years oil change interval ftw. 4/24/2007 11:48:21 AM |

i am a big fan of an oil change a year even if it is under the mileage, especially if it is in extreme cold climates 4/24/2007 12:09:18 PM |

^even though I don't change the oil, I did change the filter once a year. I also don't consider Raleigh to be extreme cold.

lol yeah I dont either was just saying in general
I used to have to do this in NY with my Impala, it never got more than 2K a year on it if that but sitting all winter when it is zero out is no good even if started on a weekly basis 4/24/2007 12:31:46 PM |

Isn't it just that the synthetic is more "slippery" and tends to exacerbate any leaks that might be there? Or did I misunderstand your intent?
Also, depends on what you mean by old. I switched to synthetic with no issues in my '96 Lincoln Mark VIII (switched in '05 with around 55k on the car...)4/24/2007 4:25:18 PM |

I have an 06 TSX. I've been running Synthetic since my 1st oil change. Seems to actually run a little better (in my mind at least). I go ~10k miles b/w changes.
also: DON'T GET IT DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP, YOU'LL GET ROBBED

I'm not sure what he meant, but unless he meant what you meant I think he's full of BS. I switched my car over to full synthetic after 200k miles of dino juice and its run beautifully.4/25/2007 1:09:49 PM |

You spent 25k+ on a car. Who cares what the oil change costs. Get synthetic.
p.s. Get the quick change oil plug and a pair of ramps from Advance and start doing it yourself.

I have a '06 TSX too. I just get all the service done at Leith Acura.
Also I just follow what the car tells me to do, A1 service when it comes up and I did a B1 service about 6 months ago. 4/25/2007 3:57:54 PM |

that isn't any good either. just starting the car does nothing for the oil. in fact it might be worse b/c the oil never comes up to proper operating temperature and the moisture doesn't have a chance to evaporate. that creates sludge.4/25/2007 9:48:54 PM |

thanks I know that and it is implied in the post, if someone else needs clarification they should go back and read a book or two before attempting to store a car for the winter months4/26/2007 8:15:45 AM |
