interesting how they come up with the list considering some of the guys on there are barely good coaches...

Can't say I can disagree with the ones on there. I might change the order around a bit though. 4/26/2007 7:35:26 AM |

Wait til Sid has a team he recruits and develops. He'll make it in there soon enough....
I wonder if Herb will ever make it with ASU? 4/26/2007 10:59:07 AM |

I don't entirely disagree with the list. I think its odd that he claim Coach K would be number 1 over a 20 year span but b/c of about 4 years, he drops 3 spots. He def deserves to be moved up ahead of Calhoun and probably in front of Donova. I mean, cmon, who had the last repeat?? 4/26/2007 11:22:38 AM |

I agree with that statement. Bob Knight got an honorable mention? wtf...you just put him in the same category as Rick Barnes...who has done what? Lets not forget where Knight coaches. I know people dont like him but he is a hell of a basketball coach.4/26/2007 12:02:52 PM |

yeah, didn't see that...so now the list is just stupid. Another Carolina ploy to put Roy Williams at/near the top of some list. Why even mentions Roy's "total wins" if it is just for recent success.

They mention everyone's lifetime achievements, assuming they have them. But they say that isn't the main criteria used to rank them.
Considering Roy is one of the last 2 coaches to win a championship, I would put him in the top tier of current coaches. I don't think he is the best in game coach, but recruiting is a big part of coaching, and he is quite good at that.
Also, if you think this article is in any way a UNC ploy, I feel bad for you. 4/26/2007 12:40:05 PM |

Bob Knight is where he belongs.
His NCAA tournament record is absolutely dismal over the past 20 years.
Donovan is an elite coach but it's tough to put him #1 over Roy Williams, Calhoun, and Coach K.
Last year was the weakest, most watered down NCAA tournament of our lifetime. There was only one other good team in the tournament (Uconn) and Florida didn't even have to beat them.
This year was a prety strong tournament so this championship is much more impressive (even though their road was remarkably easy given the tournament's relative strength).
It's tough to argue the #1 spot for anyone other than Roy Williams with the possible exception of Calhoun. 4/26/2007 3:51:05 PM |
