TSN "expert" Tom Dienhart ranked the coaches in the BCS conferences. I don't know what this is based off of, but I figured I'd post the list and you all decide for yourself.
Our Tom O'Brien is #13.

^^ no no, don't cry. like this
grobe did a great job last year, but i am not buying him as a top 5 coach until he does more than lose one orange bowl.

Northwestern maintains the same academic standards as Duke, has roughly the same kind of schedule, and yet Northwestern can at least win 3-4 games per year while Duke can't even defeat Richmond.5/8/2007 1:14:18 PM |

I think Grobe could be a top 5 coach eventually, but he hasn't proven anything more than he is a 1 year wonder.
It's amazing this guy doesn't have Greg Schiano in the top 10. 5/8/2007 2:33:32 PM |

yeah, you can't completely buy into grobe and put him #4 and then blow off schiano at #33. 5/8/2007 2:50:11 PM |

grobe lost his top 3 or 4 RB's a few games into the season.....i think overcoming the injuries had a big part in the ranking. Not to mention WF hasn't really ever done anything before either.5/8/2007 3:34:05 PM |

6-5, 7-6, 5-7, 4-7, 4-7, 11-3 and a 37-35 overall record is what Tom Dienhart thinks constitutes the #4 overall coach, Jim Grobe. Dont get me wrong I think Jim Grobe is a decent coach but c'mon one good season and he is #4...does that mean that Chuck would have been in the top 10 after the gator bowl year??? Urban Meyer and Nick Saban have NC's and they are below him..

If you've seen Wake play before this year, you would have him in the top 50.
He takes absolute shit for talent and comes away with middle of the pack ACC finishes every year. For comparison, Chuck took good talent and came away with middle of the pack ACC finishes every year.
As far as X's and O's go, Grobe is a top 20 coach in the nation. 5/9/2007 1:32:52 PM |

I agree, only idiots say Grobe isn't a good coach. He takes shitty talent, can't get good recruiting for the school WAKE and takes who he gets from all the leftovers and does well each year. Period. 5/12/2007 8:30:10 PM |

yeah, not sure what this list is based on... if its X's and O's then they have Fulmer about right, maybe even too high haha, but if its overall coaching (recruiting being a biggie) then he should be a lot higher 5/13/2007 12:48:19 PM |

well atleast he got the top 2 right...i woulda followed those with urban meyer, bob stoops, and rich rodriguez to round out my top five. saban will probably be in there after shortly, but its tough to put him in the top 5 without having coached a college team since '05.
