One of my fellow teachers is having major surgery, so several of my department members and I are going to cook her dinner over the next few weeks. I am not 100% comfortable cooking something and bringing it to her. What is a good option for me? Is there a restaurant that will get me dinner for 4 adults? Thanks! 5/8/2007 5:11:59 PM |

There are some stores opening up now where you can go prepare raw dinners and package them so you just stick them in the oven or whatever. But to do that you have to do either 6 or 12 meals at a time, which might be good in this situation so you don't have to go pick the food up every day. You go in and put all the ingredients and stuff together and take them home and put them in the fridge until you want to cook them. If you want me to get the name of the places that do it tomorrow, I can. 5/8/2007 5:22:47 PM |

they also stopped selling family frozen dinners at the grocery store. Pity, as a stouffers lasagna would have worked perfectly for this situation. 5/8/2007 5:25:17 PM |

^ They still sell those at warehouse stores. Probably someone in the department would have a membership, and it would be cheaper and probably easier than buying from a restaurant every day. 5/8/2007 5:26:47 PM |

okay, the whole purpose of MAKING something for them is that they can get a "home-cooked" meal and not have to prepare it themselves. anyone can go out and pick up something from a restaurant or call in dominos. c'mon... make a stinkin lasagna. or green bean casserole. it's easy.
and to eliminate repeated meals, everyone should sign up for something in particular in advance rather than overfilling their fridge with the same things.

Might not be comfortable because of different cooking styles or maybe one is vegan or veggie, etc... Or maybe this person doesn't like cooking, etc... Plenty of restaurants still do the take-out thing and they still offer the family size meals at the grocery stores. Places like Skwinkle is talking about would be a good option that you and the co-workers could go and do together to chip in which would give her and her family a lil more variety 5/8/2007 10:29:20 PM |

fuck yes they do
some sort of stuffed chicken breast or stuffed salmon filet that you can bake for a little while and serve
if you serve a cocktail have a bowl of nuts
the olives and cheese would pair well with a red wine but if you have red you should have a bottle of white 5/9/2007 11:52:02 PM |

Depending on why she's having surgery, you may want to ask about dietary restrictions from her doctor. Watch the sodium in those prepared meals! 5/10/2007 8:18:09 AM |

It's similar to buying a meal for just one person, you just have to do it four times. 5/10/2007 10:46:19 AM |

there is a place on capital blvd. that sells uncooked, prepared meals per person. for example, you could get chicken w/ two veggies and a bread that is already seasoned and ready ... but it just needs to be cooked. if i can come up with the name and exact location, i'll let you know. i've had some single guy friends use it, and it's a fairly good deal. 5/10/2007 12:28:43 PM |
