The 3% beer is good, but after 24-30 of them, thats a lot of pissin before you get drunk, we wiped out a restaurant last night, they had to go buy more, 126 beers for 23 people.

I toured one of the new APP mills yesterday,and it was incredible, there is nothing like standing between a pair of voith twin wire fourdrinier tissue machines, running 12,200, and 12,500 feet per minute, the second and third fastest in the world. The mill was similar to a small city, they housed all 2900 employess on the 70 square mile site, that included their own 300 megawatt powerplant. they are planneing on installing 6 new voith and metso machines in the next 4 years, and companywide in china, 38 machines, shit is blowing up around here and there is some money to be had. I am seriously considering a few years over here after I graduate, since the starting salaries for US engineers is 120-180k USD/year after taxes, and food, housing, etc., is all taken care of. I have made a lot of good contacts in american owned consulting and engineering firms, and chinese companies in the last few days.


The bus driver is my idol, tailgating by 1-2 feet at 80+ mph, laying on the horn for 3 hours straight, and weaving and swerving through rush hour traffic.

Its official, our bus driver has testicles the size of grapefruits, we went 4 wide into a blind turn on the wrong side of a 2 lane mountain road on the shoulder with another bus and two trucks


Ballinest hotel ever now though, indoor pool, laser tag, karoake bar, sauna, massage parlor, etc., etc.

8 hours of riding today and takin a shit at a chinese truck stop has got to be the worst experience ever though, it was a squatter and people apparently weren't aiming too well


On a good note, I did get a chance to speak with the president of APP, (asian pulp and paper, a huge ass company over here) and I may be working in the brand new gaunghao mill with a few other NCSU grads. The amount of capital money they are dumping into these mills are mind blowing, 2.31 billion USD in the gaunghao mill alone in the last 2 years .

happy beginning and ending

so anyway, got stuck in the ganghao airport last night, flight canceled, no seats on the train, ended up chartering a bus at 1 am for the 9 hour drive to beijing, the highways were also closed due to the bad weather, so it turned into a 14 hour drive through some back ass roads with zero visibility. the construction is a little different here, they just build shit everywhere, so we are cruising down a half finished road at 4 am, and suddenly the dude slams on the brakes, after my head smacks the seat in front of me, i look up and there is a big ass concrete column in the middle of the road for a new overpass that popped out of the fog. saw a few bad ass wrecks the rest of the way, and didnt sleep a damn bit .

8 days of chinese food was gettin to me, so i had a big ass bucket of extra crispy KFC fo dinner, those damn things are everywhere, more than mcdonalds, and its a high class place around here

anyway, finally got to beijing, saw tianeman (sp?) square and the forbidden city, a pearl and a silk factory, and am heading up to check out the great wall tomorrow, hopefully this monsoon season is about over, then flying back morning after next, gotta be back at work
