Should be a great night for the middleweight division. Former undisputed welterwieght Cory Spinks moves up to middleweight for the first time to fight a much bigger Jermaine Taylor for the WBO and WBC belts. The undercard/co-feature includes two knock out specialists (Kelly Pavlik 30-0, 27 KOs and Edison Miranda 28-1, 24 KOs) both with somewhat suspect chins. Predictions: Taylor wins a decision easily, and in a fight that features both fighters getting knocked to the canvas, Miranda beats Pavlik by KO. This leaves Taylor with the option of fighting Miranda or Wales's Joe Calzaghe next for the WBO super-middleweight title. 5/18/2007 1:19:40 PM |

Boxing's going to continue to fade away unless we get another dominant young American heavyweight
De La Hoya/Mayweather was cute, but people want to see knockouts 5/18/2007 2:39:24 PM |

I really don't get this boxing will fade away mess. With the exception of De La Hoya vs. Mayweather, Boxing hasn't been relevent for 10 years. And it took a 4 part reality series that came on after the sopranos and entourage to sell that fight. Boxing is not fading away, its just no longer important. But like I said before, this is nothing new. It has a niche, and unless Mexicans decide to move somewhere else it will continue to be a secure niche in this country. It will never become a sustainable mainstream attraction again, but it will not fade away either. And I know nobody knows this, but we actually do have an American heavyweight champion. And I agree with the knockouts comments, thats why I suggest people catch the Miranda vs Pavlik fight. Its almost guaranteed to provide a ko. 5/18/2007 2:57:10 PM |

if by having an american hvywt champion, you mean shannon briggs? he is a bum, and holds one of the many belts. The fact that he is a title holder goes to show how lame boxing has become. Prior to the de la hoya fight, mayweather said "the ufc is a flash in the pan." WTF? It has taken a large portion of boxing fans and they wont soon be coming back. 5/18/2007 4:12:24 PM |

Agreed. This is why most fans stay away from that division. The fact that you can become world champion while having a severe asthma problem is absurd.

Agreed, but I really don't see how this is related to anything. I'm glad UFC is doing well, but it has nothing to do with this fight.5/18/2007 4:35:54 PM |

Miranda/Pavlich was an amazing fight...that's the type of boxing that gets the blood pumping and that I'll watch the whole fight.
Spinks put on a very talented fight, but it was shitty in terms of entertainment, especially in the last round when he actually ran circles around Taylor avoiding him. 5/21/2007 9:10:39 AM |

The one with the biggest stars is July 21, Winky Wright vs. Bernard Hopkins. However, there is a very good chance that will be a boring, defensive minded fight. The other one is June 23. That fight features Ricky Hatton vs Jose Luis Castillo.5/21/2007 11:20:25 AM |
