So my friends and I are planning on camping on Carolina Beach this weekend.
Got a couple of questions:
1) It's first come first serve as far as campsites. If we didn't get there until 8:30 pm on Friday night, are we in danger of not getting one? Basically, are there usually a lot of people there during the summer?
2) Alcohol is strictly prohibited in state parks. How strictly is this enforced at Carolina Beach? If you've been, did you take alcohol and did you have any trouble if so?
3) Anything else you can recommend to a novice camper would be appreciated. 7/16/2008 12:00:27 PM |

On big weekends like July 4th and memorial weekend, it hard to get a spot but you can get on the beach. I think memorial weekend we couldn't get a beach front parking spot so we had to park on the dune side.
You can ride out there 24/7.

Pretty much don't be stupid (a giant keg, etc). Bring coosies (sp?) and have a good time. I have never seen them check coolers or IDs.

Bring lots of blankets to put at the bottom of your tents. Sleeping on sand isn't as comfortable as it sounds. The more blankets (or hell even a blow up mattress) the better you'll sleep.
Try to park your vehicle right beside your tent. It can block a majority of the wind and keep peoples heads light from shining in your tent all night.
I bought some bigger stakes from Dick's Sporting good to help hold my tent down.
Bring your own firewood. Firewood at Carolina beach is like 5$ a stack.7/16/2008 2:02:26 PM |

You had to have a metal container last year too. We had to leave the beach and buy one at Walmart 7/16/2008 3:00:59 PM |

It isn't a state park, its maintained by the town of CB, and you can have alcohol, just no glass bottles. 7/16/2008 3:03:41 PM |

^ Not a bad idea except it's an extra 2 hours worth of driving to get there. 7/16/2008 3:39:01 PM |
