so i take out the 2 fans and it still doesnt turn on...now i'm thinking wtf
anyone got some ideas? i'm thinking about taking out the battery thing on the motherboard but i doubt that will help 5/22/2007 2:57:02 PM |

like adding two fans will do that... blow it up and then stop working all together. then magically spring back to life... 5/22/2007 3:13:57 PM |

sounds like maybe you don't have a strong enough powersupply or have a bad connection with one of those new fans. 5/22/2007 3:17:06 PM |

not to sound like i'm trolling or anything cause i'm pretty n00bish when it comes to computers but...
shouldn't a 300 watt power supply be good enough for a 1.2ghz processor, only 1 harddrive, 1dvd-rw, and 1 video card along with 3 fans(2 of the fans have lights(one blue, one red))
seems like i dont have all that much connected to it 5/22/2007 3:30:30 PM |

not if the PSU isnt running healthy. depends on other specs too. go into bios and check your power output and usage 5/22/2007 3:34:02 PM |

well, i was gonna try to do that...but now its not turning on again...monitor light is staying yellow
the time before this it took about a minute for the monitor light to turn from orange to green

pull out the fans, sound card, disconnect the DVD drive and try it then. If it is your PSU you might get lucky and be able to turn it on with minimum power consumption. but of course that makes no sense because then you know its your PSU and you need to replace it anyway. 5/22/2007 3:54:58 PM |

just put in a 450watt psu(some cheap brand, not antec) and it still isnt working...god this is gay
what i've tried: 300w psu with dvd, hd, video card 300w psu with hd only 300w psu with one fan, hd, video card, dvd 450w psu with dvd, hd, video card 450w psu with hd only

I replaced a fan on my computer and when I did the screws went into the MB. So a $5 fan resulted in me having to replace my MB. 5/22/2007 5:59:56 PM |

check all of your connections, reseat your RAM, try to bring it up without any devices attached including HD (will get you into the BIOS at least) and go from there...
also, are you sure the 450w PSU is compatible, and did you plug in the second connector to the board (assuming there is one?) Many have a small square 4-wire connector along with the main one. 5/22/2007 7:10:35 PM |

^^i'm gonna try some of the shit in that post
i saw a 4 pin connector coming from the power supply but it was working before i ever put it in, and i dont even see a spot to put it in
honestly i'm about to take the entire thing apart and put it back together...if it dont work after that i have no clue what to do 5/22/2007 10:31:58 PM |

so do yall think its the motherboard?
i mean i figured if the mb was fucked it wouldnt even turn on but i seriously just gutted everything out of my desktop and put them back in and made sure everything was connected and now it still doesnt work
i'm pretty sure the harddrive is still good(started using feb 06)
video card shouldnt be fucking anything up
dvd shouldnt be fucking anything up
ram should work
also i dont know if this helps but you know how you usually have to hold the power button for 7 seconds? well i can turn off the computer by just pushing it once 5/23/2007 4:35:16 PM |

look at the tops of all the capacitors and see if they are bulging .
it will cause intermittent starting / stability problems. 5/24/2007 2:48:19 PM |

oh i forgot to mention that
i talked to a friend yesterday and he asked that...i'd say about 30-40 percent of the capacitors were bulging...my friend is like yeah thats the problem....bummer...i'm out a desktop 5/24/2007 8:57:34 PM |

if you're upgrading from a 1.2 ghz, anything you put in there should be a night-and-day difference. You can be out the door with a new board and processor for well under $100 and on your way, check newegg etc. for some deals. 5/25/2007 9:13:47 PM |

Yeah you want to build a new pc anyway. Pick up an asus p965 board with a c2d 6600, maybe a couple 8800gtx's in sli, and a couple 10k drives in raid, and you'll be set. 5/29/2007 10:44:01 AM |
