"Lancaster overcame a 9-1 deficit to win, 14-12, as first baseman homered four times. Bates, a sixth-round draft choice in 2006 out of North Carolina State, became the first Sox minor leaguer to hit four home runs in a game since Aug. 15, 1949, when shortstop Jack Littrell of the Hornell Maple Leafs in the Class D Pony League hit four against the Orlean Oilers."

what are the dimensions of that stadium???? The two previous games before that were 30-0 and 21-6 finals. Four homers is still impressive though, gg 5/23/2007 12:07:41 PM |

Bates was actually a 2nd round pick and has been hitting the ball well all year so far.
He should be at Double A soon.
He can take over in about 3/4 years when Papi is done. 5/24/2007 12:05:22 AM |

from technician:
"In the third round, junior first baseman Aaron Bates was the first player taken from the Pack when the Boston Red Sox used the 83rd pick to select Bates."
also ...
"The next time the Red Sox had a pick they went with another State player, taking junior first baseman Jon Still in the fourth round."

This article was written before Bates' junior season, but still a damn good read on the guy. Makes me proud he wore the red and white.

Bates was a 3rd rounder.....early 3rd round.
I knew it wasn't 6th but it's cool.
