I don't think anyone with an ounce of merit has ever praised Linkin Park.

I happen to like old U2, nonetheless I still would consider them techncially overrated.

If anything, the White Stripes will be remembered for their resurrection of forgotten classics as much as their original material. Their version of "Death Letter" stands up against anything in their catalog, and it's a pretty fucking strong catalog.

There are only a handful of bands doing anything interesting with basic rock instrumentation these days, but the White Stripes are one of those bands. In 1999, the last thing anyone wanted to hear was another guitar band (even Pavement was getting tiresome), and they basically forced people to accept that Zeppelin-esque combination of bombast and sloppiness, even at a time when super-tight shit like the Hives was becoming popular.

i think Dave Mathews Band is overrated too

But I'm wondering if the bands I'm listing are overrated, or if I just don't personally like them, cause a lot of this is about opinion

dave matthews just sucks, nothing overrated about it

anything rap is overrated, i mean if you retards want to throw away money on cds, then ill make a synthesized drum beat on a keyboard, steal a piano riff from some classical music composer, and talk in rhyme over top of it...then you can pay me millions for this garbage

also I think Blood Sugar Sex Magik was a great album and Rattle and Hum and Joshua Tree are good albums...neither of those bands have done anything spectacular this century though

I dont think Linkin Park or Arctic Monkeys are rated high enough to be overrated but maybe thats just me

A lot of the stuff on the radio nowadays is overrated, but that pretty much spans all genres (as far as "bands of our time"

^^eh...i'll completely concede that most of the shit on the radio or mtv/bet as far as rap nowadays is garbage, but you cant just pigeonhole the entire hip hop genre like that...that would be like me saying all rock n roll sucked just because limp bizkit and kid rock are garbage

yea i guess, my main problem with rap is it seems too easy to make money off of it, like not as much talent as rock bands...but i guess i could say the same for a lot of female pop artists too

yeah basically...its the most popular niche/subsegment of mainstream music nowadays, if that makes any sense but because of that, its easy to get out there if you mold to the cookie cutter sound, even though the true fans realize its the commercial fluff that makes the radio sets

How bout Boston?

They weren't even really a band. Just Tom Scholtz's one man rocktron parade (with Brad Delp singing of course)

nickelback - i doubt anyone here likes them, but enough people do in general to warrant air-time on rock stations. they should die.

radiohead - they're aight, but a lot of it is boring pseudo intellectual tripe

coldplay - they really really want to be U2.

Have to say I agree. Lots of weird synth noises with Thom Yorke making strange shrieking sounds all while dragging on for way too long. If they'd just fucking make music they'd be back up at the top of the world, but I'm really not sure what to call most of their weird shit.

^ listen seriously to Kid A, start to finish. Don't give up on it after track 2 just because you think it sounds "weird." Listen, uninterrupted, to the entire album and tell me that Radiohead is overrated.
