you poor bastard.... first, where do you live about... second what part of campus....
if you live in n. raleigh you are better off taking 540 to 70/alexander, then taking alexander to 147 and riding that up... the only slow bit would be on alexander for a few lights (3) 4th is the ramp onto the freeway...
i work at duke as well, but i live off of alexander...

I live in N. Raleigh, work in downtown Durham (very close to Duke) and have been making the commute for 3 years now. During rush hour, ^^^^ is definitely the way to go. Also, there are some ways to zigzag through RTP and hit up 40 or 540, cutting out a lot of the backed up highway traffic that you would experience if you took either of those highways the direct way (I hope that made sense). 6/4/2007 11:24:06 AM |

I take 40 every day and traffic isn't too bad in the morning but it sucks at night.

I start at Duke in July, looks like I'll be dealing with this as well. For all the interviews I went I-40 to 147, but I dunno how getting there at 8:30 is gonna work... 147 isnt bad, it's the I-40 stretch that sucks. Although, I'm betting the drive BACK to Raleigh will be worse. 6/4/2007 11:55:29 AM |

^Oh, it will. Ya, in the morning, 40 is usually decent, but 70 to blue rigde was much better in the evening. 6/4/2007 12:42:51 PM |

it really does depend on your part of raleigh. if its logisical to go to 540 first and then 70, absolutely do that over 40 (and the return).
Otherwise you do have a ton of options so knowing what part of duke he was/is going to is a valid point. i travel from durham to raleigh and i actually take 70 to page road to 540 to 40 because its faster than traveling 40 the entire way from miami blvd up even though every online map has me do that.
If you have an option of working earlier (like 7-4) or later (9-6) its also something to consider due to traffic. 6/4/2007 1:19:08 PM |

I work at Duke now and sometimes I go from Garner to Durham in the morning (gf's house) and other times from Cary to Durham (my house).
Garner to Durham fucking sucks... but once I hit 40 after wade, it's all good.
If you're downtown Raleigh, take Wade to 40 and you should be pretty alright. 6/4/2007 3:14:09 PM |

I work at the Eye Center in the Hospital. UHH yeah I took 40 this morning. Luckily I left at 7:00 right after that terrible wreck had happened. (before they shut down the lanes) It took me 30 minutes to get from Gorman St. to Wade Ave, but I still managed to get there in an hour (sucks but oh well). I changed my shift from 8-4:30 to help with the traffic, hopefully it will. 6/4/2007 5:52:31 PM |
