it's been happening for a while--originally, i thought it was the video card crapping out b/c the only time it happened is when i tried to play a game, but apparently it happens whenever i do anything that's processor intensive b/c after i installed folding@home, it would turn-off within 30 seconds everytime i ran it. in everyday use (web, office, matlab, etc), it never happens.
so, it seems to be related to the processor, but the only thing i can think of that might cause is overheating. but, the processor is a freaking celeron (2.53ghz) and my case has vents at the front, back and side, so i would think this shouldn't be a problem. anyone have any ideas? 6/7/2007 1:51:33 PM |

sounds like a clear case of overheating, just because it's a celeron doesn't mean it runs cooler than a normal prescott, i have a socket 478 celeron spare PC and it runs hot...
the best things you can try are: a) reseat the HSF on the cpu b) install a larger HSF on the cpu c) install higher cfm fans in the case
before buying any parts though, take the side panel off and run a fan directly aimed at the cpu, then run folding at home again, see if it really is an overheating issue...
also try running apps like speedfan or coretemp to see what your temperature sensors are reading...
