Quote : | " Many readers of the blog frequent PackPride and InsideCarolina, and so do school officials. Both sites are Scout affiliates, and the network has had a rough couple of weeks. The AOL Fanhouse has picked up a scent and has been tracking this story since. First was news of Florida, Southern Cal and Ohio State jumping from the U.S.S. Scout and working out an affiliate agreement with ESPN. Yesterday, Oklahoma was the latest to leave the college sports and recruiting network for an affiliation with ESPN. At first blush, it appears that ESPN is getting into the recruiting game (my original theory), but it was explained to me that the major sites originally left Scout in order to have total control of content, design and revenue. Once independent, these sites then sought out ESPN and not the other way around. Very proactive, shall we say. Revenue is the pink elephant in the room concerning Scout. The network, which is owned by Fox (and thus, Rupert Murdoch), was recently sued by various Scout affiliates for breach of contract. Basically, Scout is accused of short-changing affiliates on ad revenue and subscription costs. Affiliates might also be bailing because of a nasty little rumor making the rounds: Fox might rebrand Scout into “MySpace Sports”. The fake Chuck Amato so wants to be a friend of Scout. " |
